We are seeking a

Housing Officer to join our Housing & Property Team.

The successful candidate will be passionate about delivering excellent customer service and will demonstrate openness, honesty, trustworthiness and a strong commitment to treating people fairly.

You will also need to be resilient and able to remain professional under pressure, as the role may involve supporting customers who are experiencing highly emotional or challenging personal circumstances.

You should have excellent literacy skills and be a confident communicator.

You must be able to demonstrate a commitment to maintaining the Council’s high standards of service and hold a full, clean and valid driving licence.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential

  • 5 GCSEs, including English and Maths. Grade C or above or equivalent.
  • Experience interacting with the public in person and over the telephone.
  • Excellent customer care skills and ability to deal with customer complaints.
  • An understanding of performance management and its relevance to the housing service.
  • Excellent communication, analytical, written and oral skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a Team.
  • Ability to set priorities and manage progress of work.
  • Self-motivated, innovative and capable of working under pressure.
  • ICT Literate.
  • Full valid driving licence and own vehicle (mileage allowance payable in accordance with the terms and conditions of employment).

Desirable

  • Chartered Institute of Housing Level 3 Qualification or equivalent
  • Experience of working in a housing service.
  • Interviewing skills.
  • Experience of local government.
  • An understanding of the operations and functions of a local authority.
  • Knowledge of the Council’s Standing Orders, Financial Regulations and the Isle of Man Government Procedures for Capital Projects (including requirements for Petitioning purposes).
  • Political sensitivity.
