About Dougies Goodies Bakery

At Dougies Goodies Bakery, we’re on a mission to make life a little sweeter—one scrumptious goodie at a time!

Whether it’s our famous buns or our custom cakes that turn any celebration into a party, we’re all about baking up joy and creating moments worth savouring.

Job Description

Ready to rise to the occasion (pun intended) and lead our team of retail assistants?

Dougies Goodies Bakery is on the lookout for a fun-loving, customer-first go-getter to take charge of shifts in our Belfast store.

If you’ve got a passion for pastries and love the hustle and bustle of a busy shop, but prefer your nights free from the retail grind, this might just be the role that takes the cake!

At Dougies, we don’t believe in burning the candle at both ends—our hours are a delightful mix of shifts between 6:30 AM - 6:00 PM, Monday through Saturday. We don’t work Sundays.

Responsibilities

  • Run the show at the shopfront! From serving up smiles with every sale to making sure our Goodies look as delicious as they taste, you’ll be the face of Dougies.
  • Whip our team into shape—train, supervise, and motivate our retail crew to deliver outstanding customer service and create a welcoming atmosphere that’ll keep folks coming back for more.
  • Keep those shelves stocked like a pro! Work hand-in-hand with our bakery team to ensure we’ve always got fresh treats on display and zero waste left behind.
  • Stay on top of inventory levels, conducting regular stock checks to make sure we never run low on customer favourites.

• Keep the shop looking spick and span!

You’ll ensure our bakery is always clean, organised, and looking its very best, with everything from the countertops to the display cases in tip-top shape.

  • Handle customer queries, special requests, and even the occasional complaint with grace, charm, and a dash of humour - leaving every customer with a sweet interaction with our brand.
  • Lead by example in following food safety and sanitation protocols, making sure we’re always in compliance with health regulations and delivering the highest quality goodies around.

Qualifications

  • You’ve got at least 5 years of experience leading a team—bonus points if it’s in a bakery or food-related business where you’ve been the yeast that made the dough rise!
  • Your communication and interpersonal skills are as strong as our coffee—perfect for building positive relationships with customers and colleagues alike.

How to prepare for a job interview at Dougies Goodies

Show Off Your Customer Service Skills

Retail is all about providing an exceptional customer experience, so be ready to discuss your past customer service stories. We should have examples on hand of how we've handled difficult situations or gone above and beyond to meet a customer's needs. These anecdotes will bring your application to life!

Familiarity with Point of Sale Systems

Many retail roles require us to work with Point of Sale (POS) systems, so it's a good idea to brush up on any relevant software you’ve used before. If you’re familiar with systems like Shopify or Square, don’t forget to mention this during the interview. Highlighting technical proficiency can set us apart from other candidates!

Be Ready for Role-Playing Scenarios

Many retail interviews include role-playing scenarios where we might have to deal with a difficult customer or upsell a product. Practising these scenarios with a friend or family member can help us feel more comfortable. The key here is to showcase our problem-solving skills and ability to remain calm under pressure!
