The Performance Test Engineer’s primary role is to help improve the quality of Dotmatics’ solutions by planning, creating, running and analysing performance tests. In this role you will work closely with Engineering teams to diagnose performance issues and validate improvements across releases. This role will also include occasional work with customers to reproduce, analyse and resolve performance issues.

In this role you will get to:

  • Design, build and maintain performance test suites primarily using Apache JMeter to replicate realistic workloads (including API tests)
  • Execute a range of performance tests (baseline, load, stress, soak etc) and carry out results analysis
  • Produce high quality and clear reports that cater to different audiences with a range of technical abilities
  • Integrate performance tests into CI/CD pipelines
  • Work with customers and engineering teams to triage reported performance problems as well as developing targeted tests to aid in the creation of fixes
  • Work with Engineering and Services teams to advocate and drive best practice in coding standards to ensure Performance is at the forefront of development activities
  • Contribute to performance testing standards and documentation

The Key Skills we are looking for:

  • At least 2 years of experience in Performance Testing roles
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with Apache JMeter or another industry standard performance testing tool such as LoadRunner
  • Experience of the full performance testing lifecycle (requirements gathering, planning, test creation, test execution, analysis and reporting)
  • Scripting experience to support test creation (Groovy/JSR223 or similar)
  • Working knowledge of regular expressions to support test creation
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain technical findings clearly to internal teams, management and customers
  • Attention to detail and a willingness to learn

You may also have:

  • AWS experience creating and maintaining performance test environments (EC2, AMIs, Security Groups, Route 53 config)
  • Experience with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, Glowroot, PRTG)
  • Java ecosystem familiarity
  • Database performance awareness (Oracle)
  • Background in scientific discipline (chemistry, biology, life sciences, informatics)
  • SQL experience
  • Experience with Apache Tomcat configurations and impact on Performance
