As a Manual Exploratory Tester (User Testing), you will play a critical role in validating the quality of our Luma platform. You will focus on exploratory/user testing—investigating new features, workflows, and edge cases to uncover unexpected behaviours and usability issues. You will work closely with developers, product owners, and automation engineers to ensure defects are caught early, well-documented, and resolved quickly.
A background in science (chemistry, biology, or related field) is required as you will understand the scientific workflows and real-world use cases of our customers.
In this role you will get to:
- Conduct exploratory and manual testing (UAT) across web-based applications within the Luma platform.
- Develop tests/exploratory test guides to ensure business requirements are met and provide detailed feedback to design/product.
- Validate new features, integrations, and workflows, ensuring functionality aligns with product requirements and user expectations.
- Perform backend validation of APIs, services, and database interactions to ensure data integrity and system reliability.
- Use tools like Postman/Bruno for RESTful API testing and validate GraphQL queries/mutations against backend services.
- Log clear, reproducible bug reports and collaborate with developers for quick resolution.
- Provide critical feedback on usability, workflow efficiency, and overall user experience.
- Collaborate with automation engineers to identify areas suitable for automated coverage and review assertions.
- Participate in sprint planning, backlog refinement, and release readiness activities.
- Advocate for quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
We are looking for people who have an education in, or significant work experience in Biology, Chemistry, Bioinformatics, Life Sciences or similar scientific field and can demonstrate experience as a User Tester, Scientific Application administrator/owner, Software Tester, QA Analyst/User Testing, with a strong focus on exploratory testing.
The key skills we are looking for:
- Education or working experience in a Scientific environment using scientific software (being at an admin level is ideal).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with curiosity to probe beyond obvious test cases.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to spot inconsistencies, edge cases, and usability issues.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for clear bug reporting and collaboration.
- Ability to work in cross-functional teams with developers, product managers, and automation engineers.
You may also have:
- Experience testing SaaS or complex web applications.
- Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Zephyr Scale, or similar test management/bug tracking systems.
- Hands-on experience with backend validation, including API testing and database checks.
- Practical knowledge of GraphQL, including querying, mutations, and schema validation.
