The Opportunity
A growing accountancy and business advisory firm in Stoke-on-Trent is looking to appoint an ambitious Semi Senior Accountant to join its expanding Accounts team.
This is a great opportunity for someone already working within accountancy practice who wants more responsibility, better client exposure and support towards becoming fully qualified.
You'll work with a varied portfolio of owner-managed businesses, developing experience across accounts, tax and cloud accounting while working closely with experienced Seniors and Managers.
The Role
You'll gradually take greater ownership of client work as your experience develops, including:
- Preparing statutory accounts for limited companies, partnerships and sole traders
- Preparing corporation tax computations
- Assisting with personal tax returns where required
- Producing management accounts
- Preparing VAT returns
- Completing bookkeeping assignments
- Working directly with clients to resolve queries
- Supporting clients with Xero and other cloud accounting platforms
- Building strong relationships with business owners
- Working alongside Senior Accountants and Managers on more complex assignments
- Supporting and reviewing the work of junior trainees as you progress
- Ensuring assignments are completed accurately and within agreed deadlines
The role offers the opportunity to become a well-rounded accountant rather than simply focusing on year-end accounts preparation.
The Candidate
You'll ideally have:
- 2+ years' experience within a UK accountancy practice
- Be studying towards ACA or ACCA, or have completed AAT
- Experience preparing statutory accounts
- Some exposure to corporation tax
- Experience working with owner-managed businesses
- Knowledge of Xero, QuickBooks or similar cloud accounting software
- Good communication and organisational skills
- Confidence communicating directly with clients
- A desire to continue developing technically and professionally
You don't need to be the finished article. The firm is looking for someone with a solid grounding in practice who is ready to step up, take on more responsibility and continue progressing.
What's On Offer
- Full ACA/ACCA study support
- Paid study and exam leave
- Hybrid working
- Flexible working arrangements
- Generous annual leave
- Company pension
- Professional subscriptions
- Ongoing technical training and CPD
- Exposure to a broad range of clients
- Increasing client responsibility as you develop
- Clear progression to Senior Accountant and beyond
