This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced payroll professional to take ownership of a busy payroll function within a growing accountancy practice.

The firm is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager who can confidently manage the payroll lifecycle from start to finish while acting as the main point of contact for clients, HMRC and pension providers. This role offers autonomy, responsibility and the opportunity to make a genuine impact on how the payroll department operates.

The Role

  • Managing weekly, monthly and four-weekly payrolls
  • Overseeing the full payroll lifecycle
  • Acting as the primary contact for payroll clients
  • Managing HMRC and pension-related queries
  • Setting up PAYE schemes and payroll systems for new clients
  • Managing CIS submissions
  • Processing starters and leavers
  • Producing payroll reports for clients
  • Reviewing and improving payroll systems and processes
  • Ensuring compliance with current payroll legislation
  • Supporting the wider practice team where required

This is a hands-on management role with responsibility for both service delivery and process improvement.

The Candidate

  • At least 5 years' payroll bureau experience
  • Experience managing payroll at a senior level
  • Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation
  • Experience dealing directly with clients
  • Strong organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of the payroll function
  • CIPP qualification desirable but not essential
  • Experience with BrightPay beneficial
