An ambitious, independent property management business is looking for a Property Management Accountant to take financial ownership of a growing portfolio of Build to Rent assets.

Working with leading institutional property investors, you’ll partner closely with onsite General Managers and the BTR Asset Manager, helping them understand performance, control costs and make better commercial decisions.

This is far more than a month-end reporting role.

You’ll develop a detailed understanding of the buildings behind the numbers and become a trusted financial contact for both operational teams and clients.

The role

You’ll be responsible for the financial management and reporting of your allocated BTR assets, including:

  • Producing monthly management accounts and client reporting packs
  • Managing operational budgets, forecasts and asset-level P&Ls
  • Analysing performance against budget and clearly explaining key variances
  • Monitoring rental income, occupancy, voids, bad debt, incentives and ancillary revenue
  • Partnering with General Managers to improve financial understanding and cost control
  • Supporting the BTR Asset Manager with analysis, forecasting and commercial decision-making
  • Identifying risks and opportunities to improve net operating income and asset performance
  • Completing bank, trial balance and control account reconciliations
  • Posting journals, accruals and prepayments
  • Reviewing supplier invoices, expenditure coding and client fund transfers
  • Completing VAT reporting and maintaining strong financial controls
  • Supporting the mobilisation and financial set-up of new BTR developments
  • Improving reporting, systems, processes and automation as the portfolio grows
  • Attending client meetings and confidently discussing financial performance

About you

You’ll ideally have experience within Build to Rent, residential property, property management or another operational, multi-site environment.

You’ll also bring

  • Management accounting and operational P&L experience
  • Service Charge Experience
  • Excellent double-entry bookkeeping knowledge
  • Confidence investigating variances and resolving discrepancies
  • Strong Excel skills
  • Experience working with operational teams and non-finance stakeholders
  • The confidence to communicate directly with clients and senior decision-makers
  • Good working knowledge of VAT
  • A proactive, commercial and collaborative approach
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple deadlines
  • Experience using property management or accounting software would be advantageous (Yardi, Qube)

The opportunity

The business is deliberately growing its BTR platform and building the systems, processes and team needed to support an institutional-quality portfolio.

You’ll join at an important stage of that growth, giving you the opportunity to shape reporting processes, support new asset mobilisations and play a visible role in the performance of the wider portfolio.

  • The Benefits
  • £40,000 - £50,000
  • Annual Bonus
  • Hybrid Working (3 office 2 WFH)
  • Private Medical
  • 25 days annual leave + bank holidays
  • Comprehensive wellness package

If you’re a commercially minded Management Accountant who wants greater ownership, closer exposure to property operations and direct interaction with clients, this could be an excellent next step.
