We’re recruiting for a growing, family-owned business in the Stockport area looking for an experienced Assistant Management Accountant to support its day-to-day finance function. This is a newly created role being introduced initially on a six-month contract, giving the business an opportunity to establish what the longer-term finance structure should look like. As the company grows, they now need someone capable of taking greater ownership of management accounting, cashflow and financial controls, while helping bring more structure and discipline into the finance function. You’ll work closely with the MD alongside a Finance Assistant and Office Administrator.

The role

  • Supporting the preparation of monthly management accounts
  • Daily cashflow management and forecasting
  • Journals, accruals and prepayments
  • Balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis
  • Supporting budgeting and forecasting
  • Assisting with month-end and year-end
  • Maintaining accurate financial records and improving processes
  • Liaising with external accountants and supporting audit requirements
  • Providing ad-hoc analysis to support commercial decisions

Who we’re looking for

  • Ideally you’ll be ACCA or CIMA qualified or part-qualified, although strong relevant experience will be considered.
  • Hands-on and comfortable getting into the detail
  • Confident working independently
  • Commercial and pragmatic
  • Comfortable improving processes rather than inheriting a finished finance function
  • Down to earth and able to work effectively within a family-owned SME
  • Adaptable and comfortable working within a business that is going through a period of transition

Package

Up to £35,000. Benefits include 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, pension and additional employee benefits.
