Medical Lead

We are seeking an experienced and effective senior clinician to join Dorset HealthCare as the Medical Lead for Dorset Integrated Urgent Care Services (DIUCS). This is an important senior leadership role, providing visible clinical leadership across a diverse portfolio of urgent care services and supporting the delivery of high-quality, patient-centred care. The Medical Lead will have oversight and responsibility for a large DIUCS medical workforce supporting NHS 111, a clinical assessment service, out of hours visiting services, a single point of access for professionals, urgent treatment centres and minor injuries units. DIUCS provides a streamlined urgent care pathway across Dorset, helping patients access advice and treatment more quickly while reducing pressure on primary care, Emergency Departments and the 999 service. Working closely with operational leaders, clinicians and system partners, you will help ensure services remain responsive, effective and sustainable for patients across Dorset. As Medical Lead, you will provide senior clinical leadership across DIUCS, working in partnership with the Head of Service, Medical Director and wider leadership team to deliver high-quality, safe and effective urgent care services.

• Providing medical leadership, advice and assurance in relation to medical risks, identifying appropriate solutions and supporting the overall performance of the service.
• Providing visible clinical leadership, support and professional oversight for the DIUCS medical workforce, including responding to fitness to practise concerns.
• Working as part of the Medical Leadership Team alongside the Medical Director for Integrated Community Services and Chief Medical Officer.
• Working with the leadership team to improve quality and performance across clinical activity, financial management, strategy and service development.
• Leading and supporting clinical governance, patient safety and quality improvement activities.
• Responding to patient safety incidents, audits, service reviews and regulatory inspections, ensuring learning is embedded into practice.
• Supporting workforce planning, clinical supervision, training and development for medical colleagues.
• Attending Trust-wide medical leadership meetings and contributing to the wider strategic direction of services.

This post is 5 PAs per week, with at least 3 PAs expected to be based at the DIUCS hub in St Leonards. Job share applications are welcomed. A 10% responsibility payment is payable in addition to the substantive salary in recognition of the leadership and managerial responsibilities of the role.
