Building Craft Operative

Dorset Healthcare Estates and Facilities Directorate is seeking to appoint a conscientious and self-motivated Building Craft Operative to join our delivery team based at our office and workshop facilities in Wareham.

Role Overview: As a Building Craft Operative, you will deliver pre-planned maintenance and quality repair services across various Trust premises, including hospitals, health centres, mental health inpatient units, and administrative buildings throughout Dorset.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Carry out multi-skilled building tasks such as carpentry, painting, window repairs, lock repairs, artexing, glazing, bricklaying, plastering, tiling, roofing, road marking, and clearing blocked sewers, drains, gutters, and downpipes.
2. Work alongside electrical and mechanical delivery teams, facility managers, and clinical staff to ensure effective maintenance services.
3. Provide technical backup to other trades staff as needed.
4. Participate in a 24-hour on-call service covering all of Dorset.

Qualifications and Requirements:

• UK driving licence is essential.
• Ability to operate a tracked vehicle (for business use and commuting).
• Current Skilled Worker sponsorship is required; applications requiring sponsorship are ineligible.
• Enhanced DBS check required, which the Trust will cover.

• This is a fixed-term role; for current NHS staff, it is offered on a secondment basis, subject to permission.

• Recruitment and Retention Premium of £2600, NHS Pension, 27 days leave plus Bank Holidays, and overtime at premium rates are offered.
