Join Our Team: Street Cleanser – Ferndown Depot

Location: Ferndown, Dorset

Salary: up to £25,583 per annum

Hours: Full-time, 37 hours/week (rota includes early mornings, & bank holidays)

Contract Type: Permanent

Do you enjoy being outdoors, staying active, and making your community a better place? Dorset Council is looking for a dedicated Street Cleanser to help keep Ferndown clean, safe, and welcoming for everyone.

What We’re Looking For

We’re not just hiring a cleaner — we’re looking for someone who:

  • Thrives outdoors in all weather.
  • Doesn’t mind getting stuck in and getting their hands dirty.
  • Is physically fit and happy to walk, lift, and bend throughout the day.
  • Enjoys chatting with locals and solving small problems with a smile.

  • Holds a valid UK driving licence (essential).

Your Day-to-Day

  • Sweep streets and public areas.
  • Collect litter, empty bins (including dog waste bins).
  • Drive council vehicles (under 3.5t) and carry out daily safety checks.
  • Help maintain vehicles and equipment.

This is a hands-on, outdoor role. You’ll face all kinds of weather, traffic, and terrain — but you’ll also enjoy fresh air, physical activity, and the satisfaction of seeing the difference you make.
