Our charity retail shops play a vital role in funding compassionate, specialist care for people with life‑limiting illnesses and their families. Every sale directly helps us provide comfort, dignity, and support when it's needed most. As a Mobile Deputy Shop Manager at Dorothy House Hospice Care, you'll work closely with our Shop Manager teams across your area to support the day‑to‑day running of our busy charity shops. You'll help create a welcoming and engaging experience for customers, donors and volunteers across the stores, while playing an important part in supporting your local community. We'll provide all the tools, training and ongoing support you need to succeed. No retail or charity experience is required - just a passion for people, a positive attitude and a willingness to learn and step up when needed.

WHAT WILL THE ROLE INVOLVE?

  • Supporting the Shop Manager in the day‑to‑day running of the shop and creating a warm, welcoming environment for customers and donors
  • Acting as a customer champion, using initiative and continuous improvement to deliver the best possible retail experience
  • Helping to deliver high standards across both the shop floor and backstage areas, supporting volunteers to ensure every shopper has a positive experience
  • Supporting, motivating and engaging our volunteer team, helping them to feel confident, valued and well supported
  • Assisting with the training of volunteers, ensuring they are equipped to prepare goods for sale, provide excellent customer service, and uphold high standards of cleanliness and presentation
  • Assisting with the sorting, pricing and presentation of donated stock to create an appealing shopping environment
  • Deputising for the Shop Manager when required, ensuring the smooth and safe operation of the shop
  • Supporting the recruitment and onboarding of new volunteers

ABOUT YOU

This role is physically demanding and requires regular lifting, moving stock, and being on your feet for extended periods. While full manual handling training will be provided and we commit to considering reasonable adjustments, applicants should be aware that the core duties of this role require a high level of physical activity.
