Job responsibilities

  • Provide expert physiotherapy interventions for patients with palliative care needs across in‑patient, day patient, outpatient and community settings.
  • Champion a rehabilitative palliative approach, ensuring patients and families receive tailored, compassionate support.
  • Act as a key member of the MDT, collaborating with nursing, medical, therapy and social care professionals.
  • Contribute to the development, auditing and evaluation of physiotherapy services, identifying opportunities for innovation, growth and best practice.
  • Line‑manage designated staff and volunteers, supervise students, and support professional development.
  • Deliver education to patients, families, colleagues and wider networks, including self‑care techniques and physiotherapy‑based training.
  • Maintain accurate, confidential records in line with HCPC and hospice policies; contribute to safeguarding, clinical governance and service quality standards.
  • Stay up‑to‑date with palliative care best practice, engage with professional networks and participate in shared learning and supervision.

Essential qualifications

  • Registered BSc/BSc (Hons) Physiotherapist with the HCPC.
  • Experience in palliative care or related specialist groups.
  • Post‑graduate experience working with relevant client groups.
  • Experience assessing complex physical conditions, goal setting and formulating treatment plans.
  • Evidence of working as an autonomous practitioner.
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary team.

Desirable qualifications

  • Extended scope practice or willingness to undertake postgraduate training (e.g. acupuncture).
  • Experience working with volunteers, students, supervising staff.
  • Experience providing education and training.
  • Experience working with external organisations or community partners.
