This is a Full Time position working 37.5 Hours per week. This role can work across a variety of shift patterns that could include late shifts, nights or early shifts.

Main duties of the job

Here at Dorothy House we provide compassionate care and support for people in our community with a life-limiting illness. Our focus is on quality of life, helping patients to live well and die well.

About us

Our Inpatient Unit at Winsley is a safe and comfortable environment with a dedicated care team. Patients usually stay for a short time - between seven and ten days. After consultation with a patient's GP or other healthcare professional, we are able to offer short stays at the Unit. Often, this time is used to assess a patient's needs and to plan for future care.

Job responsibilities

  • Working as a Nurse as part of our incredible Inpatient Unit (IPU) team, you will use a patient-centred approach and evidenced based practice to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care and will co-ordinate care from admission to discharge.
  • Demonstrate clinical practice which is patient focused and has a high commitment to professional caring and partnership in care.
  • To assess the needs of patients and devise a plan of nursing care based on assessment of physical, emotional, spiritual and social needs, involving patients and carers in the process.
  • To implement the planned programme of nursing care and where appropriate, liaise with other members of the Caring Team who may be responsible for implementing specific aspects of nursing care.
  • To work as a member of the Nursing and Multi-disciplinary Teams.
  • To ensure nursing practice is grounded in evidence-based wherever possible.
  • To ensure and co-ordinate safe discharge of patients with an understanding of the needs of patients and carers in the community and the available services.
  • To act at all times in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council Professional Code of Conduct.
