Our Hospice at Home service provides packages of care to help people remain at home in the later stages of their life. Full training is provided and no experience is required. If you are a passionate and caring individual looking for a rewarding new challenge, this role is for you.
Main Duties
- Our carers are community based and occasionally work at our Winsley Hospice. You will be expected to travel anywhere within our geographical catchment area, so access to your own vehicle is essential. Mileage will be reimbursed at an agreed rate. Where possible, we try to keep you working in your local area, but flexibility is sometimes needed.
About Dorothy House Hospice Care
We are a local charity providing free, specialist end‑of‑life care and palliative support to adults across an 800‑square‑mile region including Bath, Somerset, and Wiltshire. Through our 10‑bed inpatient unit in Winsley and our community‑based services, we deliver holistic medical, emotional, and spiritual care to patients and their families.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate and personalised care to support anyone in the community requiring end‑of‑life care in their own home.
- Undertake all aspects of personal care, including washing/showering patients, managing bodily fluids (catheters, stomas) and providing care after death.
- Provide emotional care and support to the patient and their family, treating them with respect, dignity and compassion at all times.
- Receive full training through our Tulip Certificate programme and continuous support from a senior care worker.
- Work as part of a multi‑professional team under the direct leadership and supervision of a Senior Care worker to deliver care to our high standard.
Working Hours and Schedule
Full and part‑time positions are available, covering care both across the day and overnight, 365 days a year. We are currently recruiting Day Carers who can work shifts that cover our 07:00‑22:00 care needs, including alternate weekends.
What We Look For
- No health or social care experience needed – previous experience is an advantage.
- Full UK driver’s licence with access to a vehicle.
- Demonstrated empathy, compassion, and a passion to learn and develop.
