Dornan Engineering Group is a leading international engineering contractor delivering high-value projects across Europe, UK & Ireland. Dornan are seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our General Contracting division, supporting the successful commercial delivery of a major, high-value, technically complex project. This is a senior role suited to a commercially astute professional who thrives in fast-paced environments and has a proven ability to manage cost control, procurement, and contractual obligations from project inception through to final account. You will play a key role in safeguarding the commercial interests of the business, working closely with project management, engineering, planning, and supply chain teams to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards. The role will be based in Spain, with opportunity to travel in the future also cited.
Your day will include:
- Full commercial management of the project, from pre-contract through construction and final account
- Preparation, management, and control of project budgets, forecasts, and cost reports
- Leading procurement strategies, including package scoping
- Tender evaluation, negotiation, and appointment of subcontractors and suppliers
- Administration of main contract and subcontracts, including valuations, change control, variations, and claims management
- Preparation and agreement of interim valuations, payment applications, and final accounts
- Proactive identification and mitigation of commercial risks and opportunities
- Monitoring project cash flow and ensuring accurate financial forecasting
- Supporting project teams with commercial input on programme changes, value engineering, and design development
- Ensuring compliance with company commercial procedures, governance, and reporting requirements
- Managing and mentoring junior members of the commercial team where required
- Building and maintaining strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, consultants, and the supply chain
About You
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying or a related construction/commercial discipline
- Minimum of several years' experience operating in a Senior Quantity Surveyor role on large-scale construction projects
- Strong background in general contracting, with experience managing complex subcontract packages
- Excellent commercial and contractual knowledge, ideally with experience of standard forms of contract
- Proven ability to lead commercial aspects of projects independently while collaborating effectively within multidiscipline teams
- Strong negotiation, communication, and stakeholder management skills
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and commercially focused with a proactive approach to problem-solving
- Confident working in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments with multiple priorities
- Strong proficiency in cost reporting, forecasting, and commercial systems
- Commitment to delivering results to the highest professional standards
