Purpose of Job

The scope of the role is to support the manufacturing operations in achieving business objectives and targets. The Engineering Manager is an integral part of the site Management Team and will manage the Engineering function with due respect for policies on EHS and Food Safety.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Manage the Mechanical, Electrical and Toolroom resources to ensure that engineering work and PM&R required by the production departments are completed to a high standard of quality, workmanship and safety and that all costs are within budget (measurable in terms of production downtime).
  • Direct responsibility for Engineering related contracts, Engineering Spend and Spares Inventory v A.O.P Deliver Annual Maintenance Costs v A.O.P Targets.
  • Accountable for the scheduling and coordination of the PM&R programmes for building, outside premises and plant utilities and audit the production equipment PM&R programmes and ensure calibration of all instruments to ensure their accurate performance.
  • Identify and negotiate service providers (contractors) to ensure cost efficient and quality services for building, equipment and plant utilities.
  • Coach the Engineering Team and arrange training programmes for the department personnel so that the manpower is most effectively utilized and developed.
  • Ensure the Health & Safety of departmental personnel to meet all statutory and company safety requirements including control of contractors.
  • Analysis of machine breakdowns and initiation of corrective actions.
  • Work closely with the production and quality teams to promote a high level of co‑operation and communication within the manufacturing and quality teams, ensuring that effective support is provided to reflect plant production priorities.
  • Overall responsibility for the housekeeping and 5’s of all engineering stores and workshops.
  • Manage / Lead the site Project Team.
  • Manage all capital projects including costs v agreed Capex costs.
  • Manage Fixed asset list for the site.
  • Ensure we have a “Live” Engineering and Project action plan.
  • Drive to motivate and move the department forward, to achieve challenging business objectives.
  • Be an active part of the Plant Senior Management team.
  • Adhere to quality and food initiatives with regard to Food Safety.

H&S & Environment

  • Comply with Sonoco EHS policy and statutory requirements at all times.
  • Lead by example on all matters of Health & Safety.
  • Encouragement of others to engage in safety discussions and projects.
  • Ensure that all activities are carried out in accordance with all applicable safety procedures.
  • Completion of all mandatory Convergence training and refreshers as required in a timely manner.
  • Practice safe working techniques in all that you do.
  • Support the business with any safety related initiatives and programs.
  • Development of safety related skills, including attending any safety related training as and when required.
  • Support the business with carrying out safety observations and discussions with others, finding any fixes or improvements which can be proposed to the site.
  • Effective waste management control within the relevant area of responsibility, to control, reduce and eliminate waste within anything that we do.
  • Adhere to high levels of GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and ensure 5S is carried out at all times.
  • Any additional role-specific H&S responsibilities.
  • Any additional role-specific Environmental responsibilities.
