An exciting opportunity has opened at London Vet Specialists for a Patient Flow Assistant to join our team in our multi-disciplinary referral hospital in Hammersmith. The role will work closely with our Patient Flow Coordinator RVN to optimise our patient workflow, with previous veterinary experience essential in the successful candidate.
Role Overview
The Patient Flow Assistant will be responsible for working collaboratively with the Patient Flow Coordinator, Head of Nursing Services (HoNS), Client Care Team Leader and teams across the hospital to deliver an optimal patient flow through all services. Your responsibilities will include the processing of patients admitted for investigations and procedures under the direction of the Patient Flow Coordinator. This includes patient admit processing, liaising with the anaesthesia, diagnostic imaging and ward teams, overseeing patient accommodation availability and emergency phone triage. You will also assist with keeping accurate hospitalisation records in the SmartFlow patient management system to ensure our inpatients are appropriately managed during their hospitalisation from point of admission, as well as general assistance with client care responsibilities, such as telephony, email inbox management and practice management system tasks. This is not considered a clinical patient care role, with minimal patient handling requirements, though requires previous experience within a veterinary setting due to the nature of the role. The role may be suited to a Patient Care Assistant, Client Care Assistant or non-practicing RVN seeking a new dynamic role in a multi-disciplinary referral hospital.
Key Responsibilities
- Process patients being admitted to the hospital, including ID confirmation and labelling, belongings labelling, admission to Animana practice management system, SmartFlow template set-up, Brucella Canis policy compliance and teamwide communication regarding infectious patients of zoonotic risk.
- Liaise with the Patient Flow Coordinator for patients admitted requiring procedure(s) for efficient scheduling across all services.
- Assist with emergency phone triage, to obtain case information and assess acceptance suitability, in line with our emergency case acceptance process.
- Assist with patient triage on arrival to the hospital for direction to the clinical team/ ICU or suitability to wait for clinician appointment.
- Demonstrate the ability to provide a high standard of hospital hygiene, to include cleaning and disinfection in all areas.
- Assist in consultations on request, in the form of patient restraint, direction of patient samples to the lab for processing and consult room stocking & hygiene maintenance.
- Assist with reception and client care duties to include greeting clients, answering the telephone, taking payments, scheduling appointments, email inbox management and Animana reception tasks.
