Do you want to shape the design of large power transformers that support critical energy infrastructure around the world? GE Vernova is looking for an exceptional Transformer Designer HVDC Simulations Expert to join our Electrification team based in Stafford, UK.

As Transformer Designer HVDC Simulations Expert, you lead the electrical design of large power transformers for HVAC and, where applicable, HVDC applications, helping deliver reliable, high-performance solutions for customers. You work across the full design process, from customer specification review and detailed transformer design through to preparing design information, supporting factory and supplier discussions, and attending design reviews with customers and internal teams. You also contribute to simulation and analysis work, help solve manufacturing and product challenges, and support product improvement and cost‑out initiatives that strengthen quality, cost, and time to market.

Responsibilities

  • Designing electrical transformer solutions for HVAC and preferably HVDC applications up to 800kV
  • Performing short circuit, lightning impulse, thermal, and related design calculations to support robust transformer performance
  • Contributing to detailed transformer design activity and advising the Drawing Office team on best practice issues
  • Using 3D FEA, 2D FEA, thermal, or electromagnetic analysis to support design decisions and technical problem solving
  • Working with Transformer Manufacturing to solve problems and develop best practices
  • Supporting tender and contract design projects while balancing product performance, project cost, and time to market
  • Communicating with other power transformer teams to help apply standards and best practices consistently
  • Representing GE Vernova from a technical viewpoint in front of customers and supporting design reviews and approval meetings
  • Contributing to product improvement and cost‑out initiatives that strengthen competitiveness and engineering value

Skills and Qualifications

  • You are a technically strong, collaborative engineer who enjoys solving complex transformer design challenges and turning analysis into practical, reliable solutions.
  • The ability to design and support large power transformer electrical solutions for HVAC and preferably HVDC applications
  • The capability to review customer requirements, prepare design information, and participate confidently in technical reviews
  • An understanding of power transformer engineering, including short circuit, lightning impulse, thermal, and related electrical design considerations
  • An understanding of finite element electrostatic and electromagnetic modelling is an advantage
  • An expertise in engineering technology and product definition, with advanced experience in transformer design or related electrical design work
  • Experience with PDM Windchill or a similar documentation management system is preferred
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Inventor is preferred
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to analyse and resolve problems
  • A practical, organised approach to planning, documenting, and delivering engineering work
  • A formal education and subsequent University Bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related field are nice to have, but we are most interested in your total experience and professional achievements.
