The Role of the Test Engineer is to successfully test High Voltage Power Transformers to verify compliance with the customer’s requirements. The Test Engineer must follow test procedures and instructions at all times to ensure the transformer is tested correctly and safely while minimising product and equipment risk.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide technical expertise in testing Power Transformers to national & international standards.
- Plan test schematic diagrams for testing including switching operations.
- Adhere to test procedures and instructions.
- Report test equipment defects before use.
- Report test non-conformances to the Test Manager.
- Always maintain a high standard for safety.
- Record all test results accurately.
- Review and analyse test results prior to filing.
- Develop test skill levels through career development and active learning.
- Maintain test equipment in accordance with the business strategy.
- Minimise product and equipment risk through planning and monitoring.
- Ensure effective use of historical test data and lessons learnt when planning test circuits.
- Methodically analyse a test problem through diagnostic testing.
- Liaise with customer inspectors and auditors to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
- Support business continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Proven track record operating in the electrical field either within testing transformers or working experience in and around substations.
- HNC in a relevant electrical or engineering discipline or demonstrable practical experience.
- Good knowledge/experience of testing, switching operations, and substation configurations.
- Good knowledge of Electrical Safety Rules and their interpretation.
- Conduct themselves with authority and confidence.
- High Voltage Test or Transformer Test experience is highly desirable.
- Prove their right to work in the UK in line with UK Government guidelines.
- Willing to work shifts, including morning and afternoon shifts, with the possibility of night shifts.
- Optional travel may be available for candidates who are interested.
