Job Description Summary

Job Description

Senior Product Manager – vPAC | Grid Automation & Software | Stafford, UK

Are you ready to help shape the future of grid automation — defining how protection, automation and control evolves from dedicated hardware into software-defined infrastructure for the world’s electricity networks?

GE Vernova is looking for a Senior Product Manager – vPAC to join our Grid Automation & Software team. Stafford, United Kingdom is the preferred location, with flexibility to consider candidates in other approved GE Vernova locations where local employment arrangements can be supported.

Let’s Talk about the Role

The Senior Product Manager – vPAC will own the product vision, strategy, roadmap, and commercial direction for GE Vernova’s Virtualized Protection, Automation and Control portfolio.

This is a strategic product leadership role within the Transmission Protection, Automation and Control product line. You will help define how protection and control functions evolve from dedicated hardware platforms toward software-defined, virtualized solutions running on standardised compute infrastructure.

The role requires a strong balance of business leadership, product vision, stakeholder influence, market understanding, and technical credibility. You do not need to be the deepest technical expert in the room; however, you will need enough understanding of protection, automation and control, software-defined systems, and utility customer needs to build trust with engineering teams, customers, and senior stakeholders.

Working across Product Management, Product Owners, R&D, Engineering, Technology, Sales, Marketing, Services, Programme Management, and regional commercial teams, you will translate market opportunities and customer needs into a clear product strategy, prioritised roadmap, compelling value propositions, and commercially successful product outcomes.

This is a highly collaborative role with significant influence across global teams. You will not have direct line management responsibility, but you will need to lead through influence, align stakeholders around a shared vision, and guide decision‑making across complex technical, commercial, and regional priorities.

How You Will Make a Difference

  • Define and own the long‑term vision, strategy, roadmap, and commercial direction for the vPAC portfolio, ensuring alignment with the wider Grid Automation & Software and Transmission PAC strategy.
  • Identify market opportunities, customer needs, technology trends, competitive dynamics, and disruptive business models that will shape the future of software‑defined protection, automation and control.
  • Translate customer insight and market intelligence into clear value propositions, product outcomes, release priorities, and high‑level requirements that support customer value and profitable business growth.
  • Lead Voice of Customer activities, working closely with utilities, regional teams, partners and industry stakeholders to validate market opportunities, understand operational challenges and identify unmet customer needs.
  • Develop and maintain robust product roadmaps and business cases, using input from customers, regions, market analysis, engineering teams and commercial stakeholders to support investment and prioritisation decisions.
  • Guide and coordinate Product Owners responsible for detailed requirements, technical specifications, user stories and product documentation, ensuring their work remains aligned to the overall product strategy and roadmap.
  • Partner closely with R&D, Engineering, Technology and Programme Management to ensure product priorities are understood, delivered effectively and connected to clear business and customer outcomes.
  • Own product lifecycle decisions from ideation through launch, growth, sustainment and end‑of‑life, including recommendations on investment, acceleration, repositioning or retirement.
  • Drive commercial performance across the portfolio, including revenue growth, profitability, pricing strategy, packaging, business model development, market adoption and return on investment.
  • Define and monitor product KPIs, including customer adoption, financial performance, competitive positioning, customer satisfaction and effectiveness of R&D investment.
  • Lead go‑to‑market planning by defining product positioning, segmentation, messaging, launch priorities and sales enablement needs in partnership with Marketing, Sales and regional commercial teams.
  • Support strategic customer engagements, executive presentations, conferences and product discussions, acting as a credible product leader for both internal and external audiences.
  • Build relationships with technology partners, virtualization platform providers, system integrators, standards bodies and other ecosystem stakeholders that can strengthen the long‑term competitiveness of the vPAC portfolio.
  • Represent GE Vernova in relevant industry forums and standards discussions, including areas such as IEC, IEEE, IEC 61850, IEC 62443, digital substations, cybersecurity and software‑defined grid automation.
  • Influence global stakeholders across Product Management, R&D, Engineering, Sales, Services, Supply Chain, Marketing and regional teams without direct authority, creating alignment around priorities, trade‑offs and product direction.

Special Role Requirements

This role involves regular international travel to support customer engagements, regional collaboration, industry forums, conferences and key internal product discussions.

Travel requirements may vary depending on business priorities and product lifecycle stage, but candidates should be comfortable with regular global travel, estimated at around 30%.

Skills for Success

We are looking for a strategic, commercially minded product leader who can operate effectively across customers, technology, product strategy and business performance.

You will bring:

  • Significant experience in product management, product strategy, portfolio management or product line leadership within B2B industrial technology, grid automation, utility software, mission‑critical software or digital solutions.
  • Strong product leadership capability, including experience defining product vision, strategy, roadmaps, business cases, investment priorities, release plans and commercial product outcomes.
  • Strong business acumen, with the ability to understand market dynamics, customer value, competitive positioning, pricing, commercial models and return on investment.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and influencing skills, with the ability to align global, cross‑functional teams without direct authority.
  • The ability to work across technical and commercial teams, balancing customer needs, engineering feasibility, business priorities and long‑term product strategy.
  • Credibility in power systems, transmission and distribution, protection, automation and control, grid automation, digital substations or adjacent mission‑critical infrastructure environments.
  • An understanding of software‑defined systems, virtualization, containerised applications, edge compute, cybersecurity, modern digital architectures or industrial software platforms.
  • Experience gathering customer insight, leading Voice of Customer activities, validating market opportunities and translating customer needs into product priorities.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to customers, senior leaders, commercial teams and technical stakeholders.
  • The confidence to operate in ambiguous, evolving and disruptive product environments where market expectations, technology and business models are still developing.
  • Professional fluency in spoken and written English.
  • Experience with software licensing, subscription‑based business models, SaaS or platform‑based products, IEC 61850, IEC 62443, cybersecurity frameworks, utilities, EPCs, OEMs or digital substation modernisation programmes would be advantageous.
  • A degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Business or a related discipline, or equivalent professional experience, would be beneficial.
