FTSE Russell (LSEG) is building the real‑time platform that powers global index calculation across equity, fixed income, and multi‑asset markets. We’re looking for a hands‑on Senior Technical Lead to help modernise and scale this platform – a cloud‑native, low‑latency system that operates at global scale and underpins critical investment products used worldwide. This is an individual contributor leadership role. You’ll lead through architecture, engineering quality, and delivery – designing resilient, event‑driven systems, shaping technical direction, and raising standards across the team. You’ll work on systems where performance, data quality, and reliability are non‑negotiable, while leveraging modern cloud (AWS) and AI‑assisted development tooling to accelerate delivery without compromising control.
Responsibilities
- Design and build real‑time, event‑driven systems that calculate and distribute index data with low latency and high reliability.
- Own platform architecture and engineering quality, leading through hands‑on delivery, code review, and clear technical direction.
- Scale and operate a cloud‑native platform on AWS, ensuring resilience, observability, and performance under real market conditions.
- Define and evolve data models and pipelines for market and reference data, with strong focus on accuracy, auditability, and control.
- Drive engineering standards and modernisation, using AI‑assisted tooling and automation to improve delivery speed without compromising quality.
Tech Stack
- Development: Java, C#, Python, SQL, OpenAPI.
- Cloud: AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, S3, SQS, SNS, Aurora, and others as required).
- Databases: Sybase ASE, Sybase IQ, Aurora Postgres.
- IaC and CI/CD: Terraform, AWS CLI, GitLab.
- AI Development: Agentic AI tooling (e.g. GitHub Copilot, Claude Code).
What You’ll Bring
- Strong software engineering background, with experience designing and building distributed, event‑driven systems.
- Proven ability to own system design and architecture, balancing performance, scalability, and reliability.
- Hands‑on experience building and operating cloud‑native applications on AWS.
- Solid understanding of data modelling and relational databases in production systems.
- Experience with infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform) and modern CI/CD practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead through engineering quality – code reviews, testing strategy, and raising technical standards.
Nice to Have
- Experience working on low‑latency or real‑time systems.
- Exposure to financial services, market data, or index products.
- Practical use of AI‑assisted development tooling to improve engineering productivity.
