Position Overview
The Senior Sales Engineer at Alteryx is a trusted technical advisor who partners with customers and internal account teams to solve complex analytics challenges with AI, automation, and cloud data platforms. In this role, you will bridge customer business and technical requirements with Alteryx capabilities across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises environments.
Working closely with the go-to-market team, the Senior Sales Engineer leads technical discovery, delivers tailored product demonstrations, and supports proof-of-value and proof-of-concept engagements for qualified opportunities. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in data analytics, cloud data platforms, modern data architectures, and AI-enabled workflows, and is comfortable operating independently on complex opportunities while collaborating across sales, partners, product, and customer teams.
Primary Responsibilities
Partner with Account Executives and the wider go-to-market team on qualified opportunities, with a primary focus on new logo acquisition, aligning Alteryx solutions to customer priorities around analytics modernization, AI adoption, automation, and cloud data platforms.
Lead technical discovery with business and technicalstakeholders to understand customer objectives, currentarchitecture, data landscape, and success criteria.
Design and deliver compelling demos, workshops, andPOVs/POCs that clearly demonstrate the value of Alteryx incustomer environments across cloud, hybrid, and on-premises deployments.
Help customers evaluate solution approaches for datapreparation, analytics automation, AI-driven workflows, andintegration with cloud data platforms.
Address technical questions and objections related toarchitecture, connectivity, governance, security, scalability,and deployment patterns.
Support technical validation throughout the sales cycle,including proposals, RFP responses, and opportunity strategyfor complex deals.
While the primary emphasis is on new logo acquisition,support expansion opportunities within existing customersby identifying additional use cases, mapping customer painpoints to Alteryx capabilities, and helping account teamsdrive broader platform adoption where appropriate.
Stay current on Alteryx products, competitive offerings, andmarket trends in AI, cloud data platforms, and modernanalytics architectures.
Share field feedback, reusable assets, and best practices withthe SE organization, and provide informal guidance to lessexperienced team members where appropriate.
Qualifications
4+ years of pre-sales, sales engineering, solution consulting,or related experience in enterprise software, with strongexperience in data analytics, business intelligence, dataengineering, data science, or automation.
Experience across two or more relevant domains such asanalytics, ETL/ELT, cloud data platforms, AI/ML workflows,automation, or enterprise data architecture.
Knowledge of public cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure,or GCP, and exposure to cloud data platforms such asSnowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift, or MicrosoftFabric. Relevant certifications are a plus, although not arequirement.
Strong understanding of analytics workflows, dataintegration, data governance, automation, and howmodern analytics solutions fit into governed enterpriseenvironments.
Understanding of on-premises and cloud data sourcesconnectivity, including APIs, ODBC/JDBC, and identity-based integrations such as OAuth and SSO.
Ability to engage effectively with technical decision makers, analysts, data engineers, architects, IT stakeholders, and business leaders.
Strong presentation, demo, and storytelling skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly and credibly.
Familiarity with SQL, Python, R, Apache Spark, or similar technologies is a plus.
Experience with Alteryx or similar analytics platforms is highly desirable.
Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment, manage multiple priorities, and remain closely aligned to the sales process.
Travel up to 40%, or as required.
