Our CIO team is at the forefront of driving innovation and ensuring our technology infrastructure supports our ambitious goals. We’ve nurtured our 4Cs culture, fostering collaboration, creativity, and continuous improvement.

The CIO team plays a crucial role in this journey, working on cutting‑edge projects that enhance our digital presence and improve customer engagement. We provide insurance to nearly four million customers, but we know there’s even bigger opportunity out there. Our CIO team is always looking for passionate individuals who are eager to make a difference and contribute to our success. Hybrid working available from either our Bexhill or Leicester locations.

What does the role involve?

As a Senior Microservices Engineer, you will contribute to the design, development, and maintenance of scalable and resilient microservices‑based applications within the CIO Technology Engineering team. You will work closely with the Principal Engineer, Group Architecture, and cross‑functional scrum teams to deliver high‑quality solutions aligned with business and technical requirements. You will be responsible for implementing microservices using best practices defined by the Community of Practice, ensuring consistency, reusability, and maintainability across services. You will actively participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering standards. In this role, you will mentor junior engineers, support the adoption of modern engineering practices, and help identify and resolve technical issues early to reduce risk and prevent technical debt. You will also contribute to the creation and tracking of team‑level KPIs and support the Principal Engineer in driving strategic initiatives.

Skills we would love you to have:

  • Extensive hands-on experience developing Java based microservices in production environments, with the technical depth expected of a senior‑level engineer.
  • Strong experience working in agile teams, with a solid understanding of iterative delivery and stakeholder collaboration.
  • Proven ability to influence technical decisions, contribute to process improvements, and support the company’s engineering vision.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers, supporting their growth and onboarding into agile delivery teams.

What we offer:

Join us and you’ll find a different way of doing things. We call it the 4Cs. We focus on getting it right for our colleagues, customers, company, and community. As one of our colleagues, you’ll be helping to drive our growth, so in return, we’ll give you all the support, training and development you need. Not to mention plenty of recognition and rewards, and the scope to voice your ideas and put them into practice.

Reward:

  • Attractive salary based on experience (pay reviews also completed each year).
  • Flexible Working: We champion a flexible and hybrid working approach.
  • Competitive Bonus Scheme: All colleagues are eligible for our annual 4Cs performance bonus.
  • Physical Wellbeing: We fund our colleagues to be able to claim against everyday health care through our healthcare cash plan.
  • Financial Wellbeing: Life assurance cover and income protection at no extra cost, pension contribution match up to 10%.
