Your Role:

This position will be located in Scarborough. Priority is to ensure that all dialysis machines are completely functional and safe for patient treatments. The tech aide is also requested to complete other basic technical tasks in agreement with quality standards of Vantive.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Open Dialysis Unit
  • Turn on water treatment machine
  • Take note of any irregularities and make note of alarm(s)
  • Check Main R.O. Unit for chlorine
  • Put machine on rinse mode according to unit schedule
  • Line and prime machines (record lot numbers of dialyzers and blood lines on Run sheet)
  • Replace any machines that fail T1 tests, troubleshoot machine in the unit
  • Ordering of supplies (unit specific)
  • Technical Rounds
  • Ensure all machines are in operating order. Note any problems and rectify them.
  • Check with nurses to ensure there are no problem alarms
  • Check record and R.O testing on main R.O.
  • Enter gauge values in record book. Inform Vantive Water Tech of any problems
  • Put charts and disposables out and set-up for RN’s for each shift, disposables are made into packets by Tech Aide and put on cart for next patient shift (unit specific)
  • Clean spare machines; disinfect machines if the last sanitization was done more than 48 hours prior
  • Check with technician for duties needed (example: run lab samples to lab)
  • OE lab tests for samples and get sample labels
  • Retrieve lab results for previously collected samples
  • Note, record, file and document lab results. Inform Coordinator/Technicians of results
  • Set-up acute machines for treatments, when required - check for chlorine from water cart before hooking up machine
  • Put machines into a heat disinfection cycle, in between second and third patient shifts
  • Check for residual bleach at sample port with chlorine reagent strip. If machine was previously disinfected with bleach
  • Replace specific machines (HepB, HepC and HepB and C) out of patient areas at end of patient shifts

Water Treatment Duties:

  • Initiate portables R.O. daily flush and H2O water hardness, CL testing etc.
  • Record pressures, and any other relevant information in log book
  • Ensure technical water hook up has all components present
  • Initiate weekly disinfection of portable RO units

The estimated range is meant to reflect an anticipated salary range for the position. Individual pay is based upon location, skills and expertise, experience, and other relevant factors. This position may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
