The Regional Health & Safety Manager is responsible for leading, implementing and maintaining effective health, safety and compliance systems across the distribution centres and associated transport operating locations. The role ensures that all logistics operations, including warehousing, fleet and transport activities, operate in full compliance with legal requirements and company standards while promoting a strong safety culture and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
- Health & Safety Leadership: Working with the Health and Safety Director to lead the health and safety strategy across the distribution centres and associated transport operating locations. Promote a proactive safety-first culture across all operations. Provide professional health and safety advice to site leadership teams and operational managers. Ensure consistent application of company safety standards across all locations.
- Compliance & Governance: Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation and logistics regulatory requirements. Maintain and review health and safety policies, procedures and risk assessments. Conduct regular site audits, inspections and compliance reviews across all locations. Ensure all sites maintain appropriate documentation, records and reporting.
- Risk Management: Identify operational risks within warehousing, yard operations, vehicle movements and transport activities. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies. Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actions. Monitor accident and incident trends and implement preventative initiatives and drive continued incident reduction strategies.
- Transport & Fleet Safety: Work closely with Transport teams to ensure compliance with transport safety standards and operator licence requirements. Oversee safe systems of work relating to vehicle movements, loading/unloading and yard management. Ensure drivers and transport teams operate safely and within company procedures.
- Training & Engagement: Develop and deliver health and safety training programmes. Ensure managers and supervisors understand and fulfil their safety responsibilities. Support safety committees and employee engagement initiatives.
- Performance & Reporting: Monitor key safety metrics including incidents, near misses and audit findings. Produce regular health and safety performance reports for senior leadership. Lead improvement initiatives to reduce accidents and improve operational safety performance.
- Contractor & Third-Party Management: Ensure contractors and service providers comply with site safety standards. Manage contractor risk assessments, permits and safe systems of work.
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience in health and safety management within logistics, warehousing or transport operations.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety legislation and best practice.
- Experience managing multi-site operations.
- Experience conducting investigations, audits and risk assessments.
- Strong leadership and stakeholder management skills.
- Excellent communication and training capability.
Qualifications
- NEBOSH General Certificate (minimum)
- NEBOSH Diploma / equivalent (desirable)
- Membership of IOSH (TechIOSH/GradIOSH or above desirable)
