About the role:
The Principal CGI Artist - Stills strengthens and elevates premium visual output across the CGI function, with primary responsibility for reinforcing still‑image craft standards as production scale and complexity increase. Reporting directly to the Head of CGI, this role forms part of the CGI senior leadership team and plays a defined role in maintaining visual consistency, realism and quality across OEM and future client ecosystems.
This is a hands‑on senior practitioner role centred on realism, precision and consistency. While primarily focused on still‑image production, the role may also contribute across motion and hybrid outputs where senior craft input enhances visual continuity and overall quality.
The role operates collaboratively across creative integration, animation, Digital Twin, production, AI and pipeline capability lanes - reinforcing craft standards through visible senior craft leadership and collaborative alignment across disciplines. The purpose of the role is to protect creative altitude, ensuring output remains at a consistently high visual and creative standard, support delivery headspace and ensure premium visual standards remain consistent as production demands grow.
What you will be doing:
- Hands‑On Craft Contribution: Produce premium still imagery across product visualisation, campaign assets and marketing output. Where appropriate, contribute to motion and hybrid outputs to maintain visual consistency across disciplines.
- Stills Craft Standards: Act as a visible benchmark for still‑image quality, reinforcing standards in lighting realism, material and shader fidelity, surface detailing, environmental integration, composition and photographic authenticity. Ensure visual output maintains strict adherence to OEM brand, product accuracy and visual guidelines.
- Structured Craft Review: Provide objective craft input at defined review milestones, strengthening visual standards while maintaining clear project delivery ownership with assigned project leads.
- Creative Alignment: Work closely with the CGI Creative Lead to ensure still output supports broader creative direction, cinematics and look development intent.
- Digital Twin Feedback Contribution: Provide structured insight from live production into Digital Twin and asset development, identifying opportunities to refine materials, geometry, shaders and workflow integration, while respecting defined governance and ownership.
- Workflow & Scalability: Contribute to the evolution of scalable still‑production methodologies that enhance consistency, efficiency and cross‑project alignment.
- Cross‑Disciplinary Collaboration: Operate as a trusted senior peer within the CGI senior leadership team, contributing complementary expertise alongside discipline and capability leads across creative integration, animation, Digital Twin, AI, pipeline architecture and production.
- Leadership Through Craft: Lead by example through professionalism, consistency and high standards, reinforcing collective accountability for output quality across projects.
Tools & Pipeline Context: The role operates within a hybrid production environment combining established CGI workflows (including 3ds Max, V-Ray, Nuke and Adobe Creative Suite), real‑time technologies such as Unreal Engine, and emerging AI and generative capabilities.
What you need to be great in this role: This is a senior craft role defined by quality, consistency and influence. Success in the role is measured through the elevation of visual standards, the strength of cross‑disciplinary collaboration, and the ability to maintain creative and technical quality as production scales. Expectation is not tool ownership, but confident navigation of this landscape - ensuring craft decisions are made with an understanding of how tools, pipelines and emerging technologies impact output, efficiency and scalability, while maintaining the highest standards of visual quality and consistency.
