Field Services Engineer
Responsibilities
- Based at HMNB Devonport to provide technical support and assistance to the Royal Navy sonar systems, which may be advisory, maintenance, or a combination of both.
- Travel to other RN bases across the UK, occasionally overseas, and occasional requirements to go to sea to provide support for customers; travel circa 30% of the time.
- Work within Monday to Friday business hours, with frequent support outside of these hours including evenings or weekends as required.
- Maintain availability of RN sonar systems in line with contractual KPIs.
- Coordinate on-base technical investigations, liaising with external agencies and other Operating Bases as required.
- Assist users to achieve the highest reliability and performance from the system/equipment.
- Assist, when requested, with fault diagnosis using BITE, software confidence checks, and support equipment.
- Collaborate with Users/Maintainers to minimize incorrect diagnoses and unnecessary returns of equipment, and provide coaching on Thales UK systems as required.
- Work with or as the maintainer to ensure high-quality incident/fault data is provided and recorded.
- Enter incident/fault data into the maintenance management system as required.
- Provide assistance to local repair and/or System Contractor partners.
- Generate reports as required by the Project and represent Thales and the Project with the Customer/User community.
- Respond to technical queries, acting as a single point of contact for the User community.
- Log technical queries in the maintenance management system as required.
- Act as a two-way conduit of information between the User/Customer and Thales.
- Advise progress on ongoing tasks to the Field Services Manager.
- Carry out technical evaluations of new instructions, publications and procedures, including tracking and recording L3 and L4 maintenance.
- Ensure product safety requirements are not compromised by work and that all safety procedures are followed.
- Adhere to relevant company health and safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment.
- Be flexible to accommodate the customer training diary.
- Generate weekly status reports of site availability, faults, stores, maintenance and other site issues.
- Ability to work within confined spaces where required.
- Technical & Professional Skills
- Strong technical background, with hands-on experience of sonar systems and mechanical/hydraulic systems
- Experience with 2087 and 2076 sonar systems is desirable
Education & Qualifications
- Demonstrable engineering qualifications, up to a minimum HNC level, or demonstrable equivalent experience
- Additional Information
- This role requires a flexible approach to place of work, with travel approximately 40% of time in support of the Royal Navy.
- SC Clearance is required. If not currently held, successful applicant will need to undergo, achieve, and maintain SC Clearance. Refer to UK Security Vetting guidance for details.
- Thales adheres to Baseline Security requirements; evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment/education history for up to three years may be requested.
