We are looking to introduce a Driver Mentor/Assessor at our Peterborough Facility, to support the Transport Manager with employment and annual assessments. The Mentor/Assessor will ensure that all new drivers are competent and are fully familiar with vehicles, equipment, and depot procedures. Hours of work in this role will vary depending on training duties required. For this role, you will ultimately be a HGV driver, and you will be required to hold driver assessments as and when required. Shift Available predominantly working on Days, but this role requires you to work various shift patterns due to the nature of the role (Days / Nights). Rate of pay £16.54 per hour for all hours worked up to 39 hours each week. There will also be a Driver Mentor uplift of £30.00 per week once training for this role is complete. Any hours worked over 39 hours each week will be paid at time and a half.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To drive a HGV vehicle ensuring the completion of all daily driving functions, safely and accurately in compliance with the company H&S procedures and Working Procedures.
  • To assist with new driver interview assessments.
  • To carry out on the road employment and annual driver assessments.
  • Carry out post incident assessments (as required).
  • Mentor new drivers on the road with vehicle, trailer, and equipment familiarisation.
  • To include all current transport procedures.
  • Carry out any required familiarisation on new equipment (vehicles/ trailers tail-lifts etc.).
  • To ensure drivers are familiar with tachograph compliance and usage.
  • Complete assessment reports for completion of assessments and onboarding, or re‑training.

Who we’re looking for

  • Must be a qualified HGV Class 1 driver with a valid CPC.
  • Clean driving licence.
  • An excellent Tachograph Infringement record.
  • An excellent incident record.
  • Experience of mentoring advantageous.
  • Can demonstrate good driving techniques.
  • A regular top scorer on performance telematics.
  • Able to direct and advise drivers on best practice.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety, driver compliance and documentation completion.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience of administration using basic Microsoft packages would be ideal.
  • Able to effectively communicate suggestions and improvements to the driver and advise the Transport Management.
  • Able to work without direct supervision.
  • Conscientious and reliable.
