Help us create a better future, quicker. We are currently looking to recruit a Fitter to construct, maintain and repair the electrical distribution network. This is an important role within the district, where you’ll provide key skills and knowledge to ready the network for an electric future and to help meet the challenge of Net Zero across more than 100,000km of network and 30,000 substations, benefiting more than 3.5m homes and businesses across Scotland, England, and Wales.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Ensure that all site works are carried out safely, in accordance with company policy and safety rules and in an efficient manner.
  • Act as the nominated person in charge of safety for the duration of works attended.
  • Maintenance and repair of circuit breakers, batteries and transformers within a substation or workshop environment.
  • Draining and replenishing oils, some with residual carbon deposits.
  • Follow assigned procedures and work tasks, which can involve working at height.
  • Plan and carry out work in a safe manner, adhering to health and safety procedures.
  • Work proactively on your own or as part of a team with a confident and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Demonstrate good oral and written communication skills whilst delivering outstanding customer service.

What you’ll bring:

  • Demonstrable experience and understanding of the network.
  • Experience working within a utilities business is preferable but not essential.
  • Sound knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation.
  • Excellent communication skills to communicate effectively with colleagues and customers.

Qualifications:

  • City and Guilds or NVQ equivalent, and/or equivalent experience (minimum).
  • Employed currently or historically as an electrical Fitter at one or more of LV, HV, EHV (minimum).
  • Driving licence (minimum).
