We are seeking a highly experienced Director of Test Engineering to lead a distributed team of 10-15 software and hardware validation engineers in driving product quality and process improvements across CenTrak’s Real Time Location Systems (RTLS) portfolio. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of product reliability and customer satisfaction, working closely with the CTO and other engineering leaders to ensure timely, defect-free product launches.
CenTrak’s diverse portfolio encompasses critical solutions, including Asset Tracking & Management, Nurse Call Automation, Clinical Operations and Workflow, Patient, Staff and Newborn Protection, Temperature Monitoring, and Hand‑Hygiene Compliance/Infection Control hardware and IoT software programs. The Director of Test Engineering will play a pivotal role in establishing CenTrak as a market leader in product reliability and customer satisfaction, ensuring that our hardware and software solutions consistently meet or exceed industry standards. This position reports directly to the CTO and requires close collaboration with Engineering leadership, Product Management, Production and Project Management to align on quality objectives, drive continuous improvement, and uphold CenTrak’s commitment to excellence.
Responsibilities
- Leadership & Strategy: Lead the development and execution of the engineering quality and validation strategy for both hardware and software products. Drive the adoption of best practices in testing, validation, and quality assurance throughout the product development lifecycle. Collaborate with cross‑functional teams, including product management, engineering, and operations, to ensure a comprehensive approach to product quality. Employ scaled automation best practices throughout the development process. Establish PRD traceability and target coverage for all releases.
- Testing & Validation Oversight: Maintain a deep understanding of software development technologies, methodologies, and best practices. Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements and evaluate emerging technologies for potential adoption. Oversee the creation, implementation, and maintenance of testing protocols for all products and incremental product changes. Define and oversee automated testing strategy, tools and coverage. Ensure thorough validation of both hardware and software solutions, identifying and addressing potential issues before products reach the market. Manage the development and execution of automated and manual test cases, including regression testing, stress testing and performance testing.
- Team Management: Build and lead a high‑performing team of quality engineers, testers, and validation specialists. Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and technical excellence. Define and maintain KPIs to track productivity and identify process gaps. Allocate resources effectively to ensure timely and thorough testing of all products.
- Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve testing methodologies, tools, and processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for quality and validation activities, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Lead root cause analysis for product issues identified in the field, driving corrective actions and improvements in future product releases.
Requirements
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred. 10+ years of experience in engineering quality, validation, or testing, with at least 5 years in a leadership role. Extensive experience with both hardware and software products, preferably in a highly regulated industry and IoT devices. Expertise in design control, reliability testing, and quality tools. Exceptional communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non‑technical stakeholders. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments and with senior leadership. Meticulous attention to detail, with a strong commitment to quality and precision.
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrable experience with automated validation tools and scripting methodologies. Strong knowledge of testing methodologies, tools, and processes for both hardware and software products. Experience with automated testing frameworks and tools. Proficient in root cause analysis and failure mode effects analysis (FMEA). Must have ability to review, approve and critique V&V protocols. Must have software validation, regression testing experience.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead and mentor a team of quality professionals. Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Excellent problem‑solving skills with a focus on delivering high‑quality results.
