Job Description/Preferred Qualifications
We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer to join KLA’s Electronics Rack & PDU Engineering Center within the Central Engineering team in Newport, Wales, UK. Our team builds and develops sophisticated electromechanical assemblies that power high-performance computing (HPC) infrastructure for KLA products, enabling innovative image data processing. In this role, you will support the development and deployment of next-generation rack and power distribution solutions aligned with KLA’s compute and rack roadmaps. The ideal candidate brings technical expertise, systems-level thinking, and cross-functional communication skills, thriving in a fast-paced environment where ownership and execution under bold timelines is key.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and document mechanical system and subsystem requirements for electromechanical assemblies, such as rack, PDU, control boxes, etc.
- Design conceptual and detailed mechanical solutions using 3D CAD (e.g., PTC Creo or equivalent experience), applying DFM/DFA guidelines.
- Perform thermal and structural analyses (e.g., finite element analysis) to validate performance, safety, and compliance.
- Conduct feasibility studies, trade analyses, and develop prototype hardware to de-risk designs.
- Define and implement mechanical test plans to validate prototypes against requirements.
- Lead or support lab assembly, integration, and testing, solving design and build issues.
- Create and maintain engineering documentation, facility manuals, site prep drawings, BOMs, and handle releases and ECOs.
- Plan and track task-level schedules, supporting program milestones and design reviews.
- Present designs and technical status in engineering and program reviews.
- Collaborate with electrical, systems, marketing, NPI, manufacturing, supply chain, and service teams to ensure smooth transition into production.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Solid foundation in mechanical engineering principles, including design methodologies, machine elements, materials properties, fabrication techniques, and system integration/testing—especially for electromechanical systems.
- Demonstrated experience in designing machined parts and sheet metal components for assembly and integration.
- Proficiency in 3D solid modeling using CAD software, preferably PTC Creo.
- Solid understanding of GD&T and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Analytical problem-solving skills across structural, thermal, fluid, and acoustic domains highly preferred, especially by using finite element analysis tools, such as Ansys.
- Adaptability to shifting priorities and evolving requirements in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to thrive in a multidisciplinary, multicultural global organization.
