Lead Electrical Engineer in Newport, Wales

Lead Electrical Engineer in the Central Engineering team based in Newport, Wales, UK.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and document circuits for new projects.
• Lead Design Reviews with multi-functional teams.
• Select and detail new parts.
• Request quotations and place orders for prototype and pre‑production builds.
• Work closely with and manage suppliers to ensure all design requirements are specified and achieved.
• Address and resolve product issues through the product lifecycle phases.
• Develop the assembly procedures (Operational Method Sheets) for new assemblies, so the prototype assembly proceeds smoothly.

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or a related discipline) or hold equivalent level of qualification.
• Strong documentation skills, with knowledge of AutoCAD, Visio, Excel, and other Microsoft365 tools.
• Experience in system‑level Electrical Design Engineering with power distribution and communication circuits.
• The candidate must be a self‑motivated engineer with the ability to multi‑task and work independently as part of a team.
• You will also have the inherent desire to expand their knowledge through self‑study and continuing education and training.
• Strong communication skills are needed for extensive interaction with vendors and team members.

Desirable Experience

• Development and installation experience with safety circuits.
• Semiconductor‑industry experience is a plus (knowledge of SEMI standards).
• Familiarity with mains supply safety and design protocols.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance is a plus.
• PLC implementation and programming skills are a plus.
• Ability to diagnose problems and hands‑on problem‑solving experience for sophisticated electrical subsystems.
• Enjoy working on leading‑edge technologies.
