The Role
This role reports directly to the Creative Director and works closely with the wider editorial team. The Visual Editor will create day-to-day photo and visual solutions to support both print and digital editorial staff. The Visual Editor will work at the heart of a fast-paced, creative environment, collaborating with editors and writers to conceive editorial photography and manage shoots across all platforms and subjects, including interiors, travel, food, decoration, lifestyle, portraiture, and more.
What will you be doing?
- Produce shoots across both print and digital platforms.
- Work across both buy-in and commissioned imagery.
- Execute photo research for both the print and digital platforms of House & Garden.
- Research, source, license, and edit photos.
- Identify, negotiate, and clear artist rights across print, digital, and video.
- Review photographer portfolios and continuously search for new talent and potential stories for print and online.
- Negotiate contracts and agreements for contributors.
- Manage contracts and work orders using Condé Nast’s internal content management system.
- Conduct research using the Condé Nast archives.
- Liaise with PRs for images and contacts.
- Archive, label, and organise images within our image database.
- Obtain image references for illustrators.
- Working with the Managing Editor, oversee art and photo budgets.
- Attend shoots.
About You:
- Have an interest in interiors and lifestyle content.
- Have 5+ years of work experience producing editorial photography content.
- Demonstrated experience commissioning and supervising complex photoshoots to exacting requirements under tight time constraints and within budget.
- Maintain a database of photography talent and have a track record of finding and recruiting new talent.
- Possess thorough knowledge of artist rights and copyright law.
- Have knowledge of digital and social content.
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, with excellent communication skills.
- Proficient in Photoshop.
- Have knowledge of, and good working relationships with, picture agencies worldwide.
- Strong, high-end picture research skills across multiple genres.
- A team player who copes well with tight deadlines.
- Enthusiasm for, and skill in, photography is desirable.
- Able to work four days per week in the office.
