The Propositions team is responsible for growing Dow Jones’ portfolio of B2B products. Working closely with Proposition, Product Management, Marketing and other stakeholders, the function is responsible for exploring and delivering a series of new propositions to market.

As part of the wider Risk & Research Proposition team, the Customer & Market Research team (C&M R) helps deliver the key customer and market insights the various stakeholder teams need to drive growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertake customer and market research covering end-to-end propositions design, from market analysis to working directly with C&M R team members to support business and proposition leaders on business case development.
  • Represent the voice of the customer at senior leadership level to ensure that customer and market intelligence is at the heart of decision-making on a day-to-day basis.
  • Develop strong working relationships within the C&M R team and other functions at all levels across the business in order to deliver tailored and relevant insights.
  • Deliver customer and market research projects, from actively participating in briefing sessions to research design, execution, managing fieldwork, undertaking interviews, reporting fieldwork and project progress, performing QA, undertaking analysis and reporting.
  • Also undertake ‘desk’ research in a thorough way and ensure insights are appropriately synthesized.
  • Liaise with external partners, such as research agencies or research tool providers, to ensure work/services delivered are world-class.
  • Support the Customer & Market Research team lead with workflow/workload planning and budget management.
  • Actively share insights and information and ensure uptake of research recommendations by delivering presentations, debriefs, and participating in workshops.
  • Act as an ambassador for world-class research methodologies and execution.

Attributes & Experience

  • Ability to learn quickly, solve problems creatively, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of qual and quant research methodologies alongside their appropriate use.
  • A ‘hands-on’ qualitative researcher with experience of designing discussion guides within a B2B setting.
  • Some familiarity of using Qualtrics (or similar leading platforms) to design, set up and launch surveys.
  • Experience of performing ‘desk’ research and obtaining relevant insights using publicly available information and news sources.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in responding to changing business priorities and requirements.
  • Proven track record of getting results in a matrix organization.
  • Solid experience of customer and market research including project management and delivering credible and actionable insights.
  • Excellent numeracy and literacy skills, with attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong presentation skills, passion for storytelling, and the ability to make complex data easy to understand.
  • Proficiency with Google’s suite products (Google Sheets, Google Slides).
  • At least 4 years’ direct experience in the market research industry, in-house or agency-side.
  • Experience of conducting research and managing research teams in B2B markets, ideally within the media, news, information & data sectors.
