The team

The Research & Innovation (R&I) team at InterDigital includes more than 250 researchers and engineers with world-class expertise in AI, wireless communications, and visual technologies. Our culture values technology expertise and an entrepreneurial mindset. Within R&I, the London Video Team is leading efforts in machine learning and deep learning to build the next generation of AI driven video compression models. We are seeking a research engineer who will work to research, design, implement and optimize these models.

You are a research engineer with expertise in deep learning model development and a background in scientific research. You have built, trained and optimized deep learning models in PyTorch or similar deep learning library. A track record of documenting your innovations in top academic conferences, journals, or patents would be nice to have.

Key Qualifications

  • Bachelor or Master (PhD a plus) in Mathematics, Physics, Machine Learning or Computer Science
  • Some mixture of background in Mathematics or Physics with Machine Learning or Computer Science
  • Experience researching, developing and training deep learning models, either in PyTorch or JAX

Nice to have

  • Publications, patents, or significant open-source contributions in relevant areas are a plus
  • 2+ years of relevant research experience in machine learning or computer vision a plus

Responsibilities

  • Research, prototype and evaluate novel neural architectures for AI-based video compression and next generation video coding models
  • Produce high quality research outputs and patentable innovations in AI-based video compression and video coding, working closely with internal IP teams to capture and protect novel ideas
  • Design, implement and maintain training, evaluation and benchmarking pipelines for video compression models, including metrics and datasets
  • Collaborate and communicate research ideas within your team and more widely across teams to non-technical colleagues
  • Work on proof-of-concept projects with various teams and incorporate successful approaches into larger platforms and demonstrators
  • Stay current with advances in machine learning, deep learning and video coding research and help bring relevant ideas into InterDigital projects
  • Represent the company, promote and defend proposals from the company, through standard contributions, top academic conferences and scientific journals
