Position Overview
PIMCO Product Strategists are senior investment professionals who act as the commercial and strategic owners of their respective investment platforms. They are recognized internally and externally as subject matter experts, trusted client advisors, and thought leaders within their strategy areas. Strategists are responsible for defining and executing the long‑term growth strategy of their businesses, spanning product positioning, client engagement, new product development, and regional expansion, while also capturing near‑term opportunities. In this capacity, they operate much like leaders of focused global business units within PIMCO, partnering closely with Portfolio Management, Sales, Marketing, Risk, Legal, and Operations.
PIMCO’s Hedge Fund and Quantitative Strategies Product Strategy Group oversees the firm’s hedge fund and liquid quantitative offerings, which are designed to deliver alpha with low correlation to traditional asset classes. The platform spans both discretionary and systematic strategies, including global macro, multi‑strategy, relative value, commodities, volatility, and managed futures. PIMCO is seeking a Hedge Fund Strategist to join the Product Strategy Group, based in London. This role will play a critical part in driving the growth of PIMCO’s hedge fund and quantitative strategies across the EMEA region, while also contributing to global business strategy, product prioritization, and the development of new investment solutions.
Hedge Fund Strategist Responsibilities
- The Hedge Fund Strategist will serve as the EMEA subject matter expert on PIMCO’s hedge fund and quantitative strategies, acting as a trusted advisor to clients, prospects, and internal stakeholders.
- The role requires close partnership with global Product Strategy colleagues in Newport Beach and with Hedge Fund and Quantitative Portfolio Management teams.
- The Strategist will represent the investment process, portfolio construction, and positioning with credibility equivalent to a senior portfolio manager and will serve as the primary product expert for client‑facing teams across the region.
- The Strategist will lead strategic engagement with institutional and private wealth investors throughout EMEA, including senior client discussions, portfolio construction conversations, and complex due diligence processes.
- They will represent PIMCO externally at client meetings, industry conferences, and key market forums, helping shape the firm’s thought leadership and visibility within the regional hedge fund ecosystem.
- The role also includes ownership of high‑impact client and marketing content, including investor presentations, periodic commentaries, white papers, and bespoke client materials.
- Working closely with investors and their advisors, the Strategist will assess investment objectives and constraints and recommend tailored hedge fund and quantitative solutions.
- In partnership with client‑facing teams, the Strategist will help drive regional growth, deepen existing relationships, and expand PIMCO’s hedge fund footprint across EMEA.
- They will also contribute to global business planning, product prioritization, and new product development initiatives, incorporating client feedback, market trends, and competitive dynamics.
Requirements
- At least seven years of experience in asset management or the sell side, with a strong focus on hedge funds or liquid alternative strategies.
- Deep understanding of the global hedge fund landscape, including investment strategies, allocator behavior, and evolving client demand trends.
- Strong grasp of the various channels through which hedge fund products are distributed, including institutional, private wealth, and intermediary platforms.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex investment concepts into clear, compelling narratives.
- Comfort and credibility in public speaking, across both formal and informal settings, and with audiences ranging from small senior groups to large forums.
- An entrepreneurial mindset with a clear appetite for building and growing a business, balanced by a highly collaborative and team‑oriented approach.
