Previs Generalists collaborate closely with the Previs Supervisor and Previs Lead to design and create fast and efficient assets and solutions to technical problems. Creative and strong technically, they help support the team with a wide-ranging generalist skillset with a strong focus in either Maya or Unreal Engine.

What You'll Do

  • Asset Creation: Modeling, texturing and rigging of characters, creatures, vehicles, props, and environments to a level of detail suitable to Previs work, ensuring that assets are optimised to run as close to realtime as possible in either Maya's Viewport 2 or Unreal Engine.
  • Lighting + Rendering: Prepare low tech, fast render aesthetic solutions to achieve complex looks.
  • Technical Implementation: Troubleshoot assets, continually look for and suggest improvements to increase overall efficiency and productivity of the pipeline.
  • Pipeline and Workflow: Establish and adhere to efficient workflows for asset iteration using in-house tools.
  • Communicate and collaborate with other departments across ILM.
  • Take initiative to acquire new skills and think outside of the box.

What We're Looking For

  • Experience: Advanced experience in modeling, texturing, rigging and lighting for Previs.
  • High proficiency with modeling and texturing tools within common 3D packages (e.g. Maya, Blender, Substance Painter, ZBrush, or similar).
  • Lighting and Look Development of Previs style assets.
  • Strong generalist skills working in Unreal Engine would be an advantage, assembling aesthetically pleasing environments, managing levels and ensuring all assets are correctly managed between software packages.
  • Coding: Familiarity with scripting and coding in Python/Mel would be an advantage as would Unreal Engine coding knowledge such as developing small-scale tools, scripts, or blueprints to assist the Previs team.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and visual communication skills, with the ability to take complex feedback and rapidly iterate.
  • An interest in Machine Learning and experimenting with its application in Previs would be an advantage.

This role is Hybrid, which means the employee will be encouraged to work 2 days on-site per week at a Company designated location, and occasionally from home.
