This EMEA Payroll Manager will oversee the comprehensive “end-to-end” processing, calculation, and settlement of hourly and salaried payroll, inclusive of commissions for all employee positions within the EMEA region, as well as the administration of payroll through Workday HCM and the 3rd party payroll provider. The Payroll Manager will also understand back-end administration and stock option calculations. This position will collaborate with finance, HR, and business leadership to ensure operational alignment and is expected to lead and mentor the EMEA payroll team across regions of responsibility. The role will also be familiar with the HCM and payroll tool Workday. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented with excellent analytical and communication skills, and will be comfortable taking initiative to solve problems and help drive greater efficiency and process automation. Based on prior experience, this individual should aim to implement best-practice payroll standards. This position will report to the Global Payroll Director.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee the comprehensive “end-to-end” processing, calculation, and settlement of hourly and salaried payroll, inclusive of commissions for all employee positions worldwide, as well as the administration of payroll through Workday payroll and the third-party payroll provider.
- Lead, support, and develop the EMEA payroll team that will administer and manage day-to-day payroll operations, ensuring payments are settled accurately/timely and paid in accordance with approved provisions, inclusive of back-end administration as well as stock option calculations.
- Collaborate with finance, HR, and business leadership to ensure operational alignment, and is expected to lead and mentor the payroll team.
- Ensure successful implementation, change management, and ongoing use of payroll programs and have depth of experience/knowledge within HCM + Payroll systems (e.g., Workday).
- Responsible for payroll governance, including creation and maintenance of the payroll policy, processes, and related internal controls, and maintaining SOX, tax, audit, and global regulatory compliance.
- Calculate payroll and/or provide direct oversight for others running the tax impact for stock options, as well as the nuances of payroll tax oversight for the EMEA region.
- Serve as a direct leader and point of contact to address questions regarding payroll, performing research as needed to help resolve issues, and developing appropriate solutions to resolve exception payment requirements.
- Ensure recurring reports are published on time and manage the timely provision of ad-hoc analytics and reporting needs.
- Support audit deliverables related to payroll and provide assistance related to controls testing of payroll processes, and correspond with VPs, Directors, Managers, and Payees regarding payroll administration.
- Perform payroll-related quarter and year-end procedures and reporting, including overseeing coordination between Workday and the third-party payroll provider.
- Ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of payroll payments; conduct research; and provide guidance and subject-matter expertise on best practices for payroll policies and processes, including automation and systems.
- Work with payroll provider to ensure correct payroll liabilities by reviewing the calculation of employee federal, state, provincial, and local income and tax deductions, and filing requirements and payments.
- Stay current on regulations and guidance for in-scope countries.
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Communications, or comparable working experience in a similar role.
- Proven extensive experience working in Human Resources or a related field, including people management experience with demonstrated success in building, leading, and motivating effective teams.
- Strong track record of working with Workday or other comparable Payroll systems.
Preferred Skills/Competencies:
- Track record of working in a customer-focused environment where the emphasis is on SLA’s and continuous improvement.
- Ideally, working in an HR Shared Service Centre before, running an operations team, leading a Payroll function, and having other relevant operational experience.
- Ability to lead, coach, mentor, and motivate a diverse team; ensure team and individual accountability and performance standards are met.
- Knowledge of Payroll technologies/solutions, processes, controls, and regulations.
- Able to manage multiple priorities, demonstrate objectivity, be results-oriented, and show initiative and creativity.
- Ability to communicate and interact effectively with different levels of the organization to negotiate, problem solve, complete projects, and influence decision-making.
- Must be flexible, work well under pressure, and have the ability to readily adapt to change.
- Strong customer service and teamwork orientation.
- Advanced skills + technical capabilities in MS Office, Workday, and other related technologies.
