A vacancy has arisen for a lawyer to join the Sales & Trading Advisory team in London, which provides legal advice and support to the Rates, Foreign Exchange (FX), Credit, Emerging Markets, Listed & Clearing and other business lines within the Investment Bank. The focus of this role will be primarily on support for the Commodities Business within the Rates Business (active in Emissions Allowances, Gas and Power). The team also supports the Metals desk in the Foreign Exchange Business. Other internal clients include a variety of FIC (FX, Rates, Credit and Emerging Markets) sales, trading and structuring desks, as well as senior management, compliance and colleagues in other functions.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Drafting and negotiating a variety of agreements related to business in Emissions Allowances, Natural Gas, Power and Oil related products (primarily cash settled at present).
  • In addition, work on bullion and metal trading, finance, transport, custody and settlement agreements with external clients and service providers (business in precious metals includes physical settlement).
  • Working for the FIC businesses including in the context of Derivatives, Deal Contingent Transactions, Intermediation Prime Brokerage, Electronic Trading, Trading Venues/Platforms and trading more generally, across FIC asset classes.
  • Advising on Listed Derivatives and Clearing Activity (particularly in the context of commodity futures and options).
  • Advising on other business and products within our fixed income and currencies business lines.
  • Preparing or seeking regulatory advice with respect to all of the above areas (with a focus on commodities and Rates).

Your skills and experience:

  • Qualified lawyer, with solid post‑qualification experience.
  • Experience of sales and trading, derivatives and (ideally) commodities documentation in either private practice or in‑house.
  • Strong academic background and vocational training or comparable experience.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent legal analytical skills and problem‑solving ability.
  • A collegiate approach to progressing matters.
