You will be joining the Alternative Pricing Team. This role sits at the heart of our portfolio management, combining portfolio stewardship, underwriting analytics, and performance oversight. You will act as the gatekeeper for our modelled market segments, ensuring we understand where we are outperforming, underperforming, or simply tracking on target. Your core responsibility is to analyse portfolio risk using loss ratios and supporting KPIs, turning performance insights into clear recommendations that shape portfolio decisions. You will collaborate closely with modellers and pricing teams, providing the intelligence they need to refine pricing strategies and optimise underwriting models.
Accountabilities
- Develop and deliver new insight, including integration of new data, new analytical techniques, and new ways of evaluating portfolio performance.
- Provide data‑driven insight to modellers and pricing teams to inform rate adjustments and model improvements.
- Communicate findings clearly to stakeholders at all levels and help shape strategic pathways for growth.
- Lead risk selection projects and project teams to generate value for the wider business.
- Ensure customers’ fair and reasonable expectations are met and provide fair outcomes.
- Question and challenge peers and managers where processes do not meet these expectations.
- Ensure completion of all training as mandated by the company and regulated by the FCA.
- Ensure that direct reports and self achieve and demonstrate required levels of competence.
Essential skills / experience
- 3–5 years in a pricing / underwriting role in insurance.
- Comfortable working with numerical / statistical data.
- Good skills in statistical / data manipulation packages (preferred) with aptitude for building advanced skills.
- Pro‑active approach to driving change.
- Critical evaluation of information.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Confidence to express opinions / challenge.
- Pricing / analytics experience in financial services.
- Good knowledge of the insurance market.
