The Banker is seeking a Deputy Editor, Risk and Regulation to deliver agenda-setting coverage of global banking regulation and risk management. This is a high-impact role focused on cultivating senior regulatory sources and producing exclusive reporting, interviews and forward-looking analysis for a specialist global audience.
You will play a central role in shaping coverage priorities, contributing to The Banker’s Regulatory and Provision Tracker products, and ensuring our journalism remains authoritative, insightful and ahead of the curve.
Key Responsibilities- Monitor global banking regulators and supervisors, identifying emerging themes shaping risk management and regulatory strategy.
- Build and maintain a strong network of senior sources across regulators, central banks, government bodies, banks and the wider financial sector.
- Secure exclusive interviews and deliver forward-looking insight from senior policy and regulatory figures.
- Pitch and deliver a consistent stream of original journalism, including exclusives, interviews and analysis (typically 3–4 stories per week).
- Collaborate closely with the Risk and Regulation Editor to align coverage across The Banker and Regulatory Tracker products.
- Seek opportunities to expand Tracker content through analysis, storytelling and newsletter development.
- Help shape the editorial agenda by identifying emerging risk and regulatory trends.
- Deputise for the Risk and Regulation Editor when required.
- Contribute to editing, commissioning and newsletter production, particularly around major regulatory themes or projects.
- Write beyond the core beat when needed to support wider editorial priorities.
- Ensure all coverage is timely, accurate and tailored to both general and specialist audiences.
- Contribute to multimedia output including podcasts and video.
- Represent The Banker at industry events and contribute to FT Live activity where appropriate.
- Strong track record in financial or regulatory journalism, ideally covering banking, risk or policy.
- Deep understanding of global banking regulation and supervisory frameworks.
- Proven track record to break exclusive stories and deliver agenda-setting journalism.
- Established network of high-level sources within regulatory and financial institutions.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret sophisticated regulatory developments.
- Excellent writing and editing skills with a clear, authoritative voice.
- Experience working collaboratively within a fast-paced newsroom.
- Ability to handle multiple priorities in a timely manner.
- Experience working with data-driven products or regulatory trackers.
- Familiarity with multimedia storytelling formats (podcasts, video).
- Experience contributing to newsletters or subscription editorial products.
