Role Description

The Chief Technology Officer, Cloud9 (CTO) is a highly strategic and technical leader responsible for defining and executing the technology vision, product architecture, engineering strategy, security framework, and innovation roadmap for Cloud9 Trader Voice. Cloud9 Trader Voice is Symphony’s cloud-native, full-featured turret replacement that delivers secure, resilient voice and collaboration solutions for the global trading community connecting 20k users across 900 firms.

This critical leadership role leads a global team of highly skilled employees and is accountable for building and scaling a world-class technology organization that delivers secure, resilient, low-latency, and highly available voice and collaboration solutions for financial markets participants. The CTO will align technology investments with commercial goals, product roadmap, regulatory requirements, and customer needs, acting as a bridge between technical execution, commercial strategy and clients. Serving as a key member of the operating leadership team, the CTO will be a trusted advisor to Symphony’s CEO, COO, CIO, and executive team on technology strategy, cyber risk, infrastructure resilience, and investment planning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leadership & Strategy
    • Define and communicate the long-term technology vision and roadmap for the Cloud9 platform, aligned with company strategy and growth objectives.
    • Partner with the Cloud9 Head of Product and Cloud9 Head of Sales to align technical goals and execution with business objectives.
    • Identify and direct technical innovations that create new market opportunities.
  • Technical Transformation
    • Lead the overall technical strategy towards modern user interface design and deployment technologies.
    • Provide strong technical guidance to meet stringent availability and security requirements.
    • Own and evolve the technical roadmap in tight collaboration with the architecture and infrastructure teams.
    • Mandate and execute an AI-centric augmented engineering strategy to modernize aging code, automate quality assurance, and minimize technical debt.
  • Engineering & Delivery Excellence
    • Lead global software engineering, architecture, DevOps, QA, and technical operations teams.
    • Provide technical guidance to maintain high system availability and functionality for this mission critical product.
    • Implement AI-powered automated test systems to guarantee the accuracy and reliability of mission-critical voice trading interactions.
    • Maintain and enhance modern software development practices (CI/CD, agile delivery, observability, and release governance).
    • Monitor, measure and improve engineering velocity, quality, predictability, and time-to-market.
  • Reliability, Security & Risk Management
    • In close partnership with CISO, own Cloud9 cybersecurity strategy, secure development lifecycle, and incident response readiness.
    • Ensure platform resilience, disaster recovery, business continuity, and high-availability architecture.
    • Maintain compliance with applicable regulatory, privacy, and data retention obligations relevant to financial markets customers.
    • Own leadership response during major incidents and customer-impacting events.
  • Engineering Leadership & Talent
    • Act as the bridge across global engineering sites.
    • Recruit, mentor, and lead high-performing engineering teams while implementing scalable development practices.
    • Lead organizational design, succession planning, and talent development across technology functions.
  • Customer & Market Leadership
    • Engage directly with strategic customers, regulators, partners, and prospects as the senior technology representative.
    • Monitor competitor capabilities and market trends to inform roadmap priorities.

Required Qualifications

  • 20+ years experience in technology/engineering, including 10+ years in engineering management leading multiple global functions.
  • Proven success as a CTO, VP Engineering, or senior technology leader in a B2B SaaS, fintech, communications, or regulated technology environment.
  • Must have trading floor systems experience, demonstrated deployments, and global experience in capital markets.
  • Proven success in leading large-scale architectural transformations.
  • Strong track record delivering mission-critical, high-availability platforms with demanding uptime and performance requirements.
  • Experience with complex systems spanning cloud based operations, deployed hardware and remote management.
  • Extensive experience with Linux/Windows production workloads and deep knowledge of cloud technology.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience aligning product and technology investments to revenue growth.
  • Exceptional communication skills and experience presenting to Boards, investors, enterprise customers, and senior stakeholders.

Education

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related engineering field.

Preferred Experience

  • Knowledge of realtime communications, media and voice systems, recording, surveillance, or unified communications platforms.
  • Experience with acquisitions, post-merger integration, or international expansion.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML use cases in workflow automation, analytics, or customer experience.
