Hastings Direct is a digital insurance provider with ambitious plans to become the best and biggest in the UK market. We are recruiting experienced Large Loss Technicians to manage a portfolio of significant bodily injury claims (up to £250k) within our Bodily Injury department.

Role overview

You will work in the Technical Claims Unit, enhancing our technical capability and contributing to the growth of this specialist team.

Job details – you’ll need to have demonstrable experience in:

  • Managing a portfolio of complex motor personal injury claims, typically valued up to £250k, working within agreed authority levels.
  • Engaging and negotiating with a wide range of stakeholders to drive efficient and fair claim resolution, including customers, witnesses, insurers, solicitors, repairers, engineers, forensic accountants, investigators, medical agencies and police authorities.
  • Supporting colleagues through technical coaching, mentoring, and training to build confidence and capability.
  • Conducting technical audits, accurately recording findings and highlighting emerging trends or knowledge gaps.
  • Identifying and preventing fraudulent activity, ensuring claims are handled with diligence and integrity.
  • Participating in strategic projects aimed at enhancing technical capability and staying ahead of industry trends and best practice.

Essential skills/experience

  • Proven experience in handling high-value motor bodily injury claims, regularly exceeding £150k-£250k.
  • Sound technical knowledge of motor injury claims, including liability, causation, quantum assessment, rehabilitation and litigation strategy.
  • Understanding of legal frameworks such as CPR, case law developments, Ogden principles and claims cost management.
  • Experience mentoring or coaching others as a technical referral point.
  • Experience working with external suppliers such as solicitors, counsel, and medical experts.
  • Strong analytical capability and good computer literacy.
