Our team is looking for engineers with an understanding of electrical engineering, power systems, and energy markets, who are keen to develop their knowledge and make a meaningful contribution to the energy sector. If you’re passionate about shaping a sustainable future and curious about how engineering can support the journey to Net Zero, we’d love to hear from you. In this role, you’ll be part of a team working on substation design projects, with a focus on electricity transmission and distribution networks. You’ll also have opportunities to support projects across the wider Power & Energy Solutions team and AtkinsRéalis business. Some of our clients include National Grid, SSEN, in addition to other organisations both in the UK and internationally. You’ll gain experience delivering multi‑disciplinary design projects from Front End Engineering Design (FEED) to Detailed Design. This role also offers personal development, training, and support towards chartership, with plenty of opportunity to get involved in a wide range of impactful projects.

Your role

  • You will be working in a senior position within one of our Electrical Engineering teams, based in Epsom, Birmingham, Leeds or Glasgow.
  • Building strong and trusted relationships is a key part of this role.
  • You’ll enjoy working with others—sometimes directly at client sites, sometimes from our offices.
  • You’ll be client‑focused, able to interface with clients, understand their needs and convert opportunities into successful workstreams.
  • Provide Technical Leadership on FEED and Detailed Design workstreams for National Grid, SSEN‑Transmission, or other Transmission & Distribution clients.
  • Ensure adequate quality assurance and technical governance of FEED and Detailed Design deliverables, including protection schemes, CT/VT sizing, relay configuration philosophies, SLDs, and I/O schedules.
  • Ensure adequate resourcing, capability development and training for teams involved in delivering P&C design packages.
  • Review P&C aspects of projects including: protection schemes, settings and coordination, substation automation architectures, SLDs, wiring diagrams, I/O lists and interface drawings, Control room layouts, marshalling cabinets and protection panels.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, back‑office engineers, sub‑contractors and suppliers (relay manufacturers, SAS vendors, control/SCADA integrators).
  • Proven experience managing tender packages, responding to technical queries and producing high‑quality P&C technical offers.
  • Ability to attend and chair the Design Review and Hazard Review meetings and reviewing P&C plant design packages as required.
  • Attending site visits for clients.
  • Communication skills along with teamworking attributes.
  • Customer focused, identifying their needs along with business development skills.

  • Minimum 2.2 BEng in an Electrical Engineering discipline, Energy Systems or Renewable Energy.
