Overview

Shape the future. Make a difference. Join AtkinsRéalis. At AtkinsRéalis, we’re not just designing infrastructure—we’re engineering a better future. As part of our Networks & Drainage Solutions team, you’ll help deliver sustainable, resilient, and innovative civil engineering solutions that support communities and protect the environment.

Due to continued framework successes, we’re looking for a Civil Engineer who is passionate about water, drainage, and infrastructure to join our delivery-focused, wastewater-led team in Derby. Our collaborative and multi-disciplinary team provides hands-on surface water and wastewater network design-led optioneering, solution development, and technical oversight, supporting projects from feasibility through to delivery.

You will join our team to work mainly on Severn Trent’s AMP8 CSO reduction programme, developing practical solutions for network challenges. You’ll also assist various UK and international clients—including water companies, highways authorities, and Network Rail—with opportunities to contribute to Design & Build projects and collaborate with contractors on engineering solutions.

Your role includes:

  • Contributing to a variety of wastewater and surface water management projects, with opportunities to coordinate and deliver the preparation of technical reports, drawings, and specifications.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and working alongside recognised industry leaders on initiatives to reduce Combined Sewer Overflow spills through network investigations and targeted infrastructure solutions whilst supporting our wider business across Cities & Development and Transportation markets.
  • Contributing to holistic water management strategies that transcend traditional redline boundaries, with a focus on sustainability, climate resilience, and protecting our communities.
  • Leveraging digital tools and data to improve design quality, efficiency, and decision-making, driving innovation across the water and infrastructure sectors.

About you:

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Working towards Chartership with ICE or CIWEM, with a view to achieve this in the next 2-3 years.
  • Experience in design delivery, including multidisciplinary design.
  • Familiarity with current UK design standards and working practices.
  • Experience in designing within appropriate digital analysis packages, following local and national guidance (e.g., MicroDrainage, InfoDrainage, InfoWorks, Civil 3D, MapInfo), with an interest in developing efficient and repeatable digital workflows.
  • An interest in wastewater networks, CSO performance, and delivering practical solutions within constrained urban environments.
  • An understanding of the UK water industry, environment and sustainability and desire to apply your skills to the challenges the environment faces.
