The Head of Engineering is responsible for all custom development of proprietary products within Monex International, including core critical systems and future innovations. Our platforms are key to our current and future success as a company that allows us to simplify global payments and support businesses to manage their foreign exchange risk. The role will be part of the technology senior leadership, responsible for shaping and delivering the overall technology strategy for Monex International.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
  • Define and deliver all aspects of our software engineering strategy.
  • Build and lead a world-class product engineering organisation that consistently and rapidly ships secure, reliable products that deliver measurable business value.
  • Establish a culture of craftsmanship and automation—driving high deployment frequency, low change failure rate, short lead time, and fast MTTR—while meeting regulatory obligations and ensuring operational resilience.
  • Provide strategic direction for our platforms to deliver corporate payments, API modernisation, cloud, and real-time payment initiatives.
  • Partner with business and delivery teams to ensure scalable, secure, and compliant technology solutions.
  • Act as a trusted technology advisor to clients and internal leadership.
  • Hire, develop, mentor and retain top talent against the established engineering career paths, as well as working with strategic development partners to build a high-performance global team.
  • Partner with Product colleagues to align delivery roadmap to strategy/OKRs, ensuring predictable delivery and outcomes.
  • Drive adoption of modern architectures (microservices, event-driven systems) and cloud-native technologies.
  • Institutionalise modern engineering practices and drive metrics-led improvement using DORA + cost-to-serve.
  • Own CI/CD strategy (pipeline standardisation, policy as code, quality gates, security scanning) and implement test automation at all levels.
  • Embed DevSecOps and SRE practices across the Engineering team: SLOs/SLIs, error budgets, incident management, post-mortems, capacity & resiliency engineering.
  • Ensure compliance with data and IT security and country specific regulations.
  • Stakeholder communications - on strategy and deliveries to ExCo level.
Security & Compliance
  • Embed security-by-design principles into all engineering processes.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks such as MiFID II, PSD2, and GDPR.
  • Collaborate with Information Security and Risk teams to maintain robust controls and audit readiness.
  • Align engineering processes and technology stacks across merged entities to achieve operational efficiency and scalability.
Business Knowledge / Technical Skills
  • Expected 8 – 15 years in product engineering roles, at least 5 years in financial services.
  • More than 3 years as the lead engineering manager on a modern custom financial services critical product (e.g. a core platform), with direct leadership of end-to-end software engineering (including cloud, platform engineering, APIs etc.).
  • Previous experience of working within a regulated investment firm or strong equivalent demonstrable knowledge within a relevant Financial Services firm.
  • Strong knowledge of the regulatory environment in which an FX firm operates.
  • Able to demonstrate a clear understanding of the purpose of risk management and compliance within a regulated environment.
  • Strong knowledge of FX and derivatives.
