Overview: Project Selborne is a transformational training programme aimed at modernising Royal Navy training to deliver better‑trained sailors to the front line faster. The role is to deliver high‑quality navigation instruction and operate the Bridge Simulator for Warfare Training and Fleet units.
Shift Pattern:
- Week 1: Monday to Friday 8am–4pm (37.5 hr)
- Week 2: Monday to Thursday 1pm–9pm (30 hr) – averaging 33.75 hr per week.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Deliver high‑quality classroom and simulator‑based navigation training, covering collision avoidance, ARPA, ECDIS and AIS.
- Operate and control the Bridge Simulator to support all training activity within the Navigation Training Unit, ensuring scenarios are safe, immersive and aligned with international collision regulations.
- Role‑play key bridge team positions in the simulator, using professional communication methods to create realistic, high‑fidelity training environments.
- Design, develop and update training scenarios, supporting continuous improvement of simulator exercises and enhancing learner experience through creativity, accuracy and operational relevance.
- Conduct Level 0 maintenance on simulator systems to ensure equipment is serviceable, safe and prepared for training delivery.
Qualifications:
Essential:- Hold a Royal Navy or MCA‑issued STCW II/1 Watchkeeping Certificate of Competency.
- Excellent communication skills to engage confidently with learners, colleagues and stakeholders in classroom and simulator settings.
- Previous instructional or training delivery experience, ideally within a maritime or defence environment, or completion of the Defence Trainer Course (DTC – Level 4).
- Full training and certification will be provided if not yet held.
- Familiarity with Royal Navy training procedures, standards and operating practices.
