The Role: We are recruiting a mid‑level insurance professional with proven experience across both Lloyd’s and non‑Lloyd’s (company market) environments to support and manage a growing portfolio of European Binder and MGA business. This role will sit at the intersection of underwriting, governance, and partner management, working closely with MGAs, coverholders, brokers, and internal stakeholders across multiple European jurisdictions. It is a hands‑on role suited to someone who already understands both the European market and delegated authority structures and is ready to take greater ownership of portfolio oversight and partner relationships.

What will you be doing?

  • Binder & MGA Portfolio Management: Support the management and growth of a portfolio of European MGA and binder relationships across Lloyd’s and company market platforms. Review and assess new MGA and binder submissions, including underwriting approach, distribution strategy, and operational capability. Assist with onboarding new MGA partners, ensuring adherence to internal underwriting and governance standards. Act as a day‑to‑day contact for MGA partners and underwriters.
  • Underwriting Oversight & Governance: Review underwriting guidelines, authority limits, pricing frameworks, and wordings for delegated arrangements. Support periodic underwriting reviews, audits, and peer reviews. Escalate issues relating to performance, exposure management, or control breaches where appropriate. Ensuring the quality of documentation, and handling transactional activities critical to the placement of business.
  • Lloyd’s & Company Market Interaction: Ability to point to market relationships, a strong network and comfort in marketing business within Lloyd’s and non-Lloyds market. Work across Lloyd’s coverholder frameworks and non‑Lloyd’s delegated authority structures, understanding the differences in governance, reporting, and regulatory expectations. Support compliance with Lloyd’s minimum standards where applicable. Coordinate with internal underwriting, claims, actuarial, and operations teams across platforms.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Essential: Experience in delegated authority business, MGA management, or binder underwriting. Hands‑on experience in both Lloyd’s and non‑Lloyd’s / company market environments. Strong understanding of European insurance markets and delegated authority structures. Experience working with MGAs, coverholders, or delegated underwriting partners. Strong analytical and organisational skills. Ability to manage multiple stakeholders across different jurisdictions.
  • Desirable: Experience across multiple European territories (e.g. France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Nordics, Benelux). Background in commercial or specialty lines.

What do we offer in return? A career that you define. At Howden, we value diversity – there is no one Howden type. Instead, we’re looking for individuals who share the same values as us: Our successes have all come from someone brave enough to try something new. We support each other in the small everyday moments and the bigger challenges. We are determined to make a positive difference at work and beyond.

Reasonable adjustments: We’re committed to providing reasonable accommodations at Howden to ensure that our positions align well with your needs. Besides the usual adjustments such as software, IT, and office setups, we can also accommodate other changes such as flexible hours or hybrid working. If you’re excited by this role but have some doubts about whether it’s the right fit for you, send us your application – if your profile fits the role’s criteria, we will be in touch to assist in helping to get you set up with any reasonable adjustments you may require.
