Location: UK - Hybrid working, 1 day in London per week

Type: Permanent

We are hiring for an Enterprise Architect to join us permanently working on a hybrid basis between home and our London office once per week. In this role as the Enterprise Architect you will be responsible for shaping and maintaining a coherent, enterprise-wide architectural direction. The role ensures that business strategy, operating model evolution and technology change are translated into clear architectural intent, principles and roadmaps that guide decision-making across the organisation.

Operating horizontally across domains and initiatives, the Enterprise Architect acts as a primary architectural communication and alignment conduit between Solution Architecture, Domain Architecture and the wider IT function, as well as business and transformation leadership. Through this connective role, the Enterprise Architect ensures shared understanding of enterprise intent, makes cross-domain implications explicit, and enables consistent, informed decisions across portfolios and initiatives. The role provides architectural stewardship, governance and advisory support, promoting sustainable, benefit-driven change while avoiding siloed or short-term optimisation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enterprise Architecture Stewardship
    • Define, maintain and evolve enterprise-wide architecture principles, standards, patterns and modelling conventions.
    • Develop and maintain reference architectures and capabilities maps to support cross-division alignment and provide north-star architectures.
    • Ensure coherence and consistency across business, application, data, integration and security architectures, arbitrating cross-domain trade-offs where required.
    • Own and curate core enterprise architecture artefacts, ensuring they remain current, usable and decision-relevant.
    • Establish and maintain enterprise-level roadmaps that connect divisional initiatives into a coherent transformation path.
    • Ensure projects and programmes contribute to the long-term target architecture and reduce fragmentation; act as custodian of architectural intent, ensuring key decisions are explicit, documented and traceable to strategy and agreed principles.
    • Promote disciplined use of architecture methods, models and repositories across and beyond the EA function.
  • Strategy, Portfolio & Governance
    • Translate business strategy/vision, operating model changes, and regulatory drivers into enterprise-level architectural implications, roadmaps and transition states.
    • Define options and constraints explicitly to justify these states.
    • Guide portfolio decisions to prioritise initiatives that create enterprise-wide value and shared capability.
    • Shape capability-based roadmaps that cut across domains and initiatives.
    • Articulate architectural options, constraints and implications to support investment decisions, business cases and prioritisation discussions, explicitly addressing enterprise alignment, sustainability of the architecture and accumulation or reduction of technical debt.
    • Deliver enterprise design assurance across programmes and initiatives, ensuring conformance to agreed architectures while allowing justified, transparent exceptions.
    • Mature architecture governance mechanisms within change initiatives, so that design is conformant with agreed architectures and dispensations are managed transparently.
    • Provide design assurance for and manage design deviations of specific solution architectures.
    • Identify, manage and elevate architectural risks, dependencies and systemic issues that cannot be resolved within a single domain or project.
  • Advisory, Influence & Maturity
    • Act as a senior architectural advisor to business and IT leadership on technology strategy, architecture decisions, and transformative initiatives influencing outcomes without direct authority in a matrixed environment.
    • Coach and support domain and junior architects, strengthening architectural capability, consistency and professional judgement.
    • Facilitate cross-domain collaboration to resolve complex, enterprise-scale problems and avoid siloed optimisation.
    • Monitor industry trends and emerging technologies, assessing their enterprise-level relevance, impact and timing rather than domain-specific novelty.
    • Contribute to the ongoing maturity of the enterprise architecture practice, including governance, engagement models and ways of working.

To be successful in the role, you will have:

  • Previous experience within architecture.
  • Knowledge of platform-based architecture, data modelling, MDM, data governance, integration patterns, API architecture.
  • Experience translating business strategy, operating model change and regulatory drivers into enterprise-level architectural implications and options.
  • Experience designing architecture for major changes including roadmaps and cataloguing.
  • Experience working with executive leadership and programme boards in complex, matrixed organisations with multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex architectural concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to influence and advise senior stakeholders without direct authority.
  • Ability to balance strategic intent with delivery realities, maintaining architectural integrity while enabling progress.
